Activity/Event Purpose: Capital Book Fest is a FREE, one-day literary festival that
features hundreds of writers, poets, & children's book authors, in exciting and
informative readings, panel discussions, storytelling and interactive conversations.
Our goal is to celebrate literature and promote literacy. Our mission is to strengthen
families through reading

                             which is figured out by solving various math and scientific

Initiative Addressed:        Science and Math are a focus of the Academy, Character
Development

Objective:                   This meeting will focus science character development; the
                             participants will be broken down into groups and will act out
                             parts from the book. Following the skits, will be a science
                             portion called “As seen on TV” where the girls with test the
                             validity of several infomercial products.

Population Served:           Prince Georges County Residents; young women between the
ages of 11-14

Location of Eve nt:          Suitland High School

Equipment Needed:            Materials for the science portion

& Materials:                 Handouts to engage the participants, a camera to capture

                             speaking. There is currently no tentative agenda. However we
                             will break down participants in to groups and for 40 min
                             intervals have exercises, discussions and speeches to enhance
                             these skills.

Initiative Addressed:        Disaster Preparedness under President McIntyre newly
                             introduced focus for Shabazz. Character Development,
                             Literacy, African American History.

Objective:                   To discuss and prepare the young ladies should a natural
                             disaster affect our area. We will first open with a discussion to
                             get their view on issues such as; (Hurricane Katrina, Tsunami,
                             Tragic fires, Blizzards, Terrorists Attacks, etc). We like to
                             employ some local, Fire, EMS, and Police Officers to speak, as
                             well as some testimonials from survivors of various disasters.

Objective:                   To close out the year with a formal "Tea" the Shabazz
                             participants will utilize the etiquette skills learned earlier in the
                             year. They will also use public speaking skills to put on a brief
                             production of what they learned and experienced over the year.
                             The participants will dress up and receive certificates for
                             attendance, academics, and leadership.

General Program Objectives:     The College Fair/SAT Financial Aid Image Building
                                Workshop is a community partnership. The purpose of the
                                workshop is to provide an opportunity for high school
                                students to meet representatives from HBCU’s and various
                                colleges to discuss admission requirements and financial
                                aide guidelines.

                                The SAT Workshop provides students with an overview of
                                the SAT test, examples of questions on the test and provides
                                pointers, strategies and techniques to prompt higher
                                performance and scores. Parents are also encouraged to
                                attend as often questions and answer sessions serve as
                                vehicles to discuss preparing for the future.

                                The Image building workshop focuses on Building
                                Character: Spiritually and Physically, Interviewing

drill new water wells in Haiti. We will have a speaker come to highlight the
sustained needs of our brothers and sisters as they strive to continue rebuilding
their devastated country.

Activity/Event Purpose: The purpose of this event is to honor the chapter anniversary by

throughout the county to honor the chapter anniversary. The committee proposes the Food
and Friends project, and a food drive during the Regional Day of Service, as a start.

Activity/Event Purpose: The Gamma Pi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.,
sponsors a breakfast for the residents of the women’s shelter, Shepherd’s Cove in Capitol
Heights, Maryland. The purpose is to make the women and their children feel special in spite
of their situation. Since the residents are often survivors of domestic violence, the Omegas
ask for the assistance of sorors from Prince George’s County Alumnae Chapter (PGCAC) to
help serve as a female presence during this event. After the breakfast, sorors distributed gift
bags to the women and toys to children.

Budget:        The expenses were borne by the members of Omega Psi Phi, so that there was
not expense to the chapter.
Metrics and Evaluation: We receive immediate feedback from the shelter residents that this
                                  program has served a need for them, and that our efforts
                                  are effective in providing a respite from their normal
                                  cold breakfast. The Omegas also consider it an
effective social outreach program. We will also
conduct a survey among sorors to determine if the
program was effective and to solicit suggestions for
improvements.

of childhood obesity in our community. It will provide childhood obesity

community center in Landover. But several of the activities will be held at
