Local Area
Little Bear Lodge is part of the Almdorf Kreischberg
chalet development which is located in the lovely
peaceful village of Stadl. Stadl is positioned in the Mur
valley between Murau and Tamsweg in the Steirmark
region. 500m from the steam railway at Stadle and the
white water rafting at the Murtalerhof Hotel.

Murau is the administrative town and is about 12 mins
away. It is a quaint old town with numerous cafés and
eateries.

The area offers many activities for all ages within a short distance of the chalet.

                                    Hiking
In the Summer there are trails to follow all around the
region – divided into 5 different levels of ability and
experience – from easy family trails to difficult Nordic
Walking Routes with 3 certified Nordic Walking Centres
close by. Some of these trails start with a ride up the
mountains on one of the ski lifts which run in the
summer, or if you are lucky you can enjoy the relative
                                    comfort of a ski gondola.

Cycling
There are many cycle paths to experience – including the 350 km R2 Mur Cycle Path
(Radweg), that follows the course of the river from its source in the Lungau valley. In
addition there are a variety of mountain bike trails, with the challenging Alpentour route
which runs near to Stadl, being the longest.

Golf
There are approximately 21 golf courses in the area to choose from - Styria has 9 golf
courses including the 18 hole Murau-Kreischberg course which is about 10 minutes away by
car, the newly opened 9 hole course at Mariahof (extending to 18 holes in 2008) and the
extensive Steiermaerkischer Golf Club Murhof. Carinthia has 9 courses, including the
demanding Bad Kleinkircheim-Reichenau course. There are 3 more courses in
Salzburgerland which are reasonably close to the chalet as well.

Fishing
The region around Stadl offers excellent fishing in a
variety of angling styles. Trout fishing is available
in the nearby River Mur. The resort of Hohentaurn
provides mountain lake fishing for carp, trout and
zander, where you can also hire tackle and take
lessons. The nearby national park at Gebrenzen
has numerous mountain lakes that offer fishing for
sturgeon, carp, catfish, pike, trout and perch.
Sturgeon up to 190cm and carp of 25kg have been
recently caught near to Stadl. Turracher Hohe
offers good trout fishing in Turracher. Overall the
region offers much for the fisherman with a wide
variety of both coarse and game fishing.

White Water River Rafting
Rafting trips along the Mur river in Stadl are an exciting experience which are organised by
certified rafting guides. Different routes are available that cater for all abilities from
beginners to experienced rafters.

Horse Riding
There are several farms in Stadl that offer plenty of activities for horse lovers, with
something to suit everyone. Horse riding training is available on Haflinger horses either in an
outdoor dressage arena or by trail riding through the beautiful countryside at the foot of
Kreischberg Mountain. Horse drawn carriage rides are also available.

Swimming
The nearby town of St. Lorenzen has a leisure complex with a heated outdoor swimming
pool that includes a paddling pool for children. The complex also includes a children’s
playground and a restaurant. Also in St Lorenzen the Ferien Park Leisure complex contains a
large heated indoor swimming pool. Non residents at the Ferien park are admitted for a fee.
On the outskirts of Stadl and only 10 minutes walk from the chalet a leisure complex
contains an outdoor bathing lake. During the summer months the sun warms this man made
shallow lake to provide pleasant water temperatures. Further facilities at the Stadl leisure
centre include a children’s playground, two clay tennis courts, a large children’s wooden play
area and a small restaurant.

Tennis
The St. Lorenzen leisure centre has four clay tennis courts. There are two clay tennis courts
in St. Ruprecht. In Stadl an der Mur there are two all weather tennis courts next to Ortner's
tavern and two clay tennis courts at the leisure centre. If the weather is not too good, the
indoor tennis hall at Murau offers tennis or squash.
