The Writers' League of Texas is a nonprofit professional organization whose primary purpose is to
provide a forum for information, support, and sharing among writers, to help its 1,300 members
throughout the United States improve and market their writing skills, and to promote the interests of
writers and the writing community. Among the League’s signature programs are the annual Writers’
League of Texas Agents Conference, Project WISE (Writers in Schools for Enrichment), and the Summer
Writing Retreat, along with ongoing workshops and classes and writing contests. For more, visit the

Development Intern Job Description
Interns work on a variety of projects, with emphasis on arts development, research, and administration.
Duties can include:
 Grant research and writing
 Non-profit development and fundraising
 Accounting organization in preparation for grant audits
 Donor tracking
 Other tasks critical to nonprofit success such as: administrative tasks like filing, correspondence, data
    entry, etc.

Job Requirements
Qualified candidates should have the following skills/interests:
 Majoring in Business, English Writing & Rhetoric, Communications, or Theater Administration
 Good writing and editing skills
 Computer skills (particularly Word and Excel)
 Research skills
 Internet access
 The ability to be a self-starter
 The ability to work independently as needed

What Interns Will Gain
 Hands-on experience in business administration and arts development
 Experience in grant writing, fundraising, and business administration
 A firsthand look at a nonprofit organization and how it works
 Writing and editing experience

Interns would be expected to work 5 to 10 hours per week. Hours will vary depending on the workload.
The internship is unpaid, but it can be structured to qualify for course credit as needed.
