    8Th Grade Science Blizzard Bag
                          Day 1

What follows are the instructions for completing
the science requirements to receive credit for a
class period during a blizzard bag snow day. Bring
your completed assignment back to Mr. Saulnier the
very next school day.

To spiral on our recent human health unit we would
like you to investigate what your body does with
food after it enters your body. By taking a closer
look at the digestive system you can better
understand the basic needs of the body and where
the food travels after entering your mouth. The
overall goal for each student will be to attain
knowledge about how food gets digested and
processed into energy. Handouts and the use of
kidshealth.org will enable you to use visual aids,
click on basic functions of important organs,
gather research on organ function and the digestive
process, disorders or conditions that hinder the
digestive track, and see energy as an end result of
the digestive process.

Students with internet access should do
the following:
Go to this child friendly web site:
http://kidshealth.org/teen/your_body/body_basics/digestive_
system.html
Once there you can explore some aspects of the
human body. After exploring we would like you to
find the handout in your Blizzard Bag for day 1.
Using the website and the information on the sheet,
label and color the diagram showing the digestive
system. On the back of the diagram, define the
major function of the organs that help process food
in the digestive system (two sentences each).
Teacher Email: lsaulnier@kearsarge.org if you have
questions during the process

Students without internet access should
do the following:
Find the handout showing the digestive system in
your Blizzard Bag for day 1. Use the information on
the diagram to explore the digestive system (small
letters help identify each organ on the diagram).
Color code the diagram of the digestive system and
then on the back, define the major function of the
organs that help process food in this important
system (two sentences each).
Use the diagram in your Blizzard Bag or create your own. Try and make your drawing as
anatomically correct as possible.
8th Science Blizzard Bag Day 1
When you are finished color-coding the digestive system. We would like you to find out
what the following organs do in the human body. In other words, in the space provided,
write a brief description of the functions the organs have in the body.
