Scientific Executive Committee
The SNOLAB Scientific Executive Committee (SEC) is chaired by the
Associate Director for Facility Development and has members with expertise in
various scientific areas of interest for SNOLAB as well as representatives from
the Canadian Principal Investigators on the SNOLAB grant. The principal
objective of the committee is to provide interface with the international
scientific community and assist the SNOLAB Director in the definition of
facility properties to meet the general needs of the scientific community as
extensively as possible. This activity will include assistance in the organization
of workshops to bring together interested members of the community to advise
of the general requirements for SNOLAB facilities as well as assisting in the
process of defining the initial request for Letters-of-Interest. When priorities
have been defined by the EAC, the SEC will provide ongoing assistance to the
SNOLAB Director to ensure that the experimental requirements are
incorporated into the SNOLAB design as effectively as possible.

Two main issues on how to proceed …

1. We need to refine & solidify the space &
infrastructure requirements for our new laboratory …

•… a difficult task knowing that most (all) experiments
are in a phase of R&D

2. We need to converge on a program of the highest
scientific merit in a world of finite resources …

•… not only $$$ … but also Space & People

1. We need to refine & solidify the space &
infrastructure requirements for our new laboratory …
•… a difficult task knowing that most (all) experiments
are in a phase of R&D

We have tried to create a conceptual and
“diverse” design for our new laboratory that would
accommodate several “classes” of experimental needs …

   Andrew Hime

We need a serious break-down of infrastructure needs for
Prospective experiments …

A “break-out” session will follow this discussion for all
Interested parties to “kick-off” any immediate concerns …

We want “data” in the form of infrastructure matrices …
Overlap with request from EAC to evaluate infrastructure
Needs w.r.t. evaluation process …
A “white-paper” will be drawn up to describe the design
based upon our previous “descriptive” that will ultimately
lead to an operating manual for SNOLab …
