     • The aim of the Kindergarten to Grade
         12 Physical Education program is to
         enable individuals to develop the
         knowledge, skills and attitudes
         necessary to lead an active, healthy
         lifestyle.

     • This is achieved through teaching all
         five dimensions of the Physical
         Education curriculum.

                      Why is Variety Important?

   • Participating in a variety of activities
        can:
           Create lifelong engagement
           Create positive life skills
           Help children develop an appreciation for
            multiple sets of norms
           Foster healthy identity

                     Five Dimensions of Activity

      • Alberta curriculum has identified 5
           dimensions of activity

            1.      Alternative Environments
            2.      Dance
            3.      Types of Gymnastics
            4.      Games
            5.      Individual activities

                       Alternative Environments

    • Students participate in a variety of land or water
         based activities in alternative environments

    • The selection of activities will depend on the climate,
         resources and facilities available

      • Students participate in running, jumping, and
           throwing activities; individual manipulatives;
           combatives, or self defence activities, and
           target activities

           experiences to enhance development of
           creative, expressive and rhythmical
           movements
