Air Cleaner:

Heavy-duty type air cleaner. Engine air filtration system must have integrated hood
plenum with valve to remove moisture and large contaminants. Restriction indicator to
measure filter condition with indicator and/or light in dash.

Assist Rail:

There shall be a stainless steel assist rail at the entrance door, mounted near the
midpoint of the step-well and extending to near the top of the seat barrier. Assist rail
shall be securely attached. Assist rail on right and left side of step-well.

Axles:

10,000 pound front axle minimum with maintenance free spring pins. 21,000 pound
rear axle minimum with magnetic drain plug. 29,000 pound GVW (gross vehicle weight)
minimum required.

Batteries:

Two (2) 12 volt maintenance free type preferred, mounted on roller bearing slide out
tray. Battery tray to have two (2) positive, spring loaded pins to hold the tray in the
closed position. Polyethylene battery cover to be provided. Battery box to be chassis
frame rail mounted.

Brakes (Air):

Heavy-duty 4-wheel air brakes. Antilock brakes are required and must be 4-channel
system for maximum safety. 15 x 4” front, 16.5 x 7” rear brakes. A minimum 13.2 CFM,
gear-driven air compressor shall be included. Heated Bendix Ad-IP air dryer with
automatic purge system. Removable dust shields, Out board drums.

Bumper:

Front – 1/4” thick heavy-duty front bumper swept back style matching the hood shape.
Rear – shall be formed from 3/16” plate steel and a minimum of 9” wide (high) with a
.5369 square inch section modulus. Bumper shall wrap around corners of bus and be
attached to the chassis frame. Bumper to be diagonally braced with minimum 4” steel
tubing.

Camera:

Furnish and install a REI Brand (no exception) multiple camera bus watch system with 1
4mm day/night mini-box wedge camera installed.
Cargo Boxes:

Left and right side 96” length minimum, depth to frame, one or two doors per side,
lighted interior with key locks on doors.

Color:

Exterior – Shall be National School Bus Yellow. This paint shall be baked on high solids
polyurethane. Trim, including guardrails, pilasters, and door handles shall be black.

Interior – The area from the bottom of the side windows to the floor shall be mar-proof
steel. All seat frames, underseat heaters shall have a baked on black powder coating
for scratch resistance. All interior headlining panels on the bus to be painted shall be
primed on both sides prior to assembly.

Construction:

The Bus body shall be constructed to meet or exceed all state and federal school bus
requirements in effect at the time of manufacture.

Roof Bows – The roof bow frame assembly shall consist of continuous, one piece 14
gauge rolled channel hat sections, stretch formed and mounted on 30” centers to
provide a roll bar type protection. Roof bows shall be 3 1/16” wide with a cross section
modulus of .223.

Roof Crash Rails – two continuous, one piece 16 gauges rolled channel roof crash rails
extending from first to last roof bow shall be applied internally between interior and
exterior sheets.

Floor – Shall be constructed of 14 gauge steel formed with o verlapping joints on 30”
centers. Floor will be further reinforced with 11 gauge Z-channel crossmembers
installed on 10” centers and shall extend the full width of the floor except in wheelhouse
area. All floor crossmembers shall be welded to 14 gauge steel floor panels, which
extend the full length of the body floor on each side. An interior impact panel should be
one piece continuous welded to floor and welded at each intersection with body bow.
There should be an 11-gauge floor X-brace reinforcement added to wheelhouse area.
Wheelhouse shall be stamped 16-gauge on-piece design.

Vertical Headers – Shall be installed at each roof bow extending from upper side sheet
to exterior structural header creating closed box type reinforcement at each roof bow.

Cooling System:

Aluminum core radiator for optimum engine and transmission cooling. Chassis to
include a visible coolant level check. Horton Corsair, or equal on/off fan drive system to
increase fuel mileage and reduce noise. Formulated long-life coolant required.

Defrosters:

Defroster shall be sufficient capacity to keep windshield clear of fog, snow, and ice. The
defroster shall include full-length windshield defroster channel for even distribution of
heated air to be windshield. Two (2) fresh air fans mounted in driver’s area.
Dimensions:

Minimum exterior width 96”, minimum interior width 90”, minimum interior height 77”.

Doors:

Service Door – The service door shall be an air-operated, outward opening, two-panel
door. The door panel shall be a bolted frame. Construction and made of anodized
extruded aluminum. Each door panel designed to provide maximum visibility to the
loading area. Each panel shall be attached to pivot points at the top and bottom of the
panel with greaseless self-cleaning bearings.

The door control mechanism shall be located in reach of the driver to prevent accidental
opening by students. An emergency opening control valve shall be located adjacent to
the door.

The control mechanism of the door shall be located above the door and concealed
behind a hinged panel for ease of service. Door shall offer a minimum 30” clear
opening. Shall include a vandal lock for front door.

Electrical:

Shall be quipped with fully integrated multiplex electrical system for both body and
chassis. ECMs to be chassis frame mounted for ease of access. Body and chassis
wiring to be number and color-coded with matched weatherproof connectors. Nine pin
diagnostic to be port located under dash for both body and chassis system. All
available circuits protected by a combination of solid-state technology and fuses.

All internal wiring shall be routed down the inside of the bus, above the side windows,
behind a completely removable cover. This cover shall be removable without loosening
the side windows. A complete wiring diagram is to be furnished. All wiring that passes
through metal shall be grommeted. Clips are required to support main body wiring
harness. Wiring shall be flame retardant.

Switches shall be rocker type design.

12 volt power outlet within drivers reach.
Dual electric horns and air horn.
Extended life halogen headlights.
160-amp pad-mounted alternator required as a minimum
112 DBA Back up alarm
AM/FM Radio

Engine:

Shall be minimum 220 horsepower, Diesel Motor to include block heater. Heated
water/fuel separator ahead of primary fuel filter
Emergency Exits:

All emergency exits shall conform to FMVSS 217.
Two (2) roof hatches
Two (2) push out windows per side

Emergency door – There shall be an emergency door located in the center rear of the
bus. Door shall be constructed using self-piercing rivet technology to prevent any leak
path and shall have a minimum of 38” horizontal opening and a 61” vertical opening.
Door to be equipped with an audible buzzer that will sound when latch is moved toward
open position. Door to have upper and lower glass. Door hinges shall be stainless
steel. There shall be a device installed on the top of the emergency door that will
automatically hold the door in the open position d uring emergencies and evacuation
drills. Rear door to include an interlock vandal system.

Exterior Paneling:

Roof – Roof panels shall be one piece side to side, 20 gauge galvanized steel.
Fasteners used on top portion of exterior paneling shall be self-piercing rivet technology
to prevent any leak path. All roof sheets shall be sealed to prevent leaks. All exterior
panels shall be primed on both sides before assembly for rust prevention.

Side Panels – Exterior side panels shall be 20 gauge, galvanized steel applied to body
bow frames and self-piercing rivet technology to prevent any leak path. Lower side skirt
(floor level down) shall be quick-change replaceable design installed with threaded
fasteners.

Fenderettes:

Front and rear wheel openings shall be equipped with metal fenderettes that extend
from the body side approximately 1½ “for added protection”.

Floor Covering:

Floor covering shall be heavy-duty RCA rubber. The floor in the passenger
compartment shall be covered with smooth rubber. The aisle and entrance steps shall
be covered with slip-resistant ribbed rubber. Entire floor surface must be sealed with
adhesives, and floor seams covered with a rustproof stripping or molding. The floor
covering along the sidewalls shall be covered with molding so that dirt cannot readily
work underneath the edges. 5/8 plywood floor waterproof.

Frame:

Heavy-duty 50,000 PSI frame with 10 1/8” x 3” x 5/16” thick steel minimum. RBM of
frame must be 625,000 per frame rail minimum to prevent frame damage.
Fog Lights:

Circuit to front bumper for fog lights, ignition controlled power. Rocker switch activated.


Fuel Tank / Fuel System:

100 gallon tank minimum. Exterior Opening – Hanged door with latch. Interior Access
– Access plate in floor for servicing

Guard Rails:

Minimum of four (4) guardrails shall be supplied. One 4” located below windows, one 4”
located at seat cushion level, one 4” located near floor level and one 4” located at skirt
bottom. Side rails shall be fluted to allow for moisture drainage

Rub rails must physically secure each roof bow flange for additional protection.

Guages:

Speedometer with odometer. Tachometer, Oil Pressure, Water Temperature, Fuel,
Voltmeter, Hourmeter, Tripmeter must be included.

Gauges must be mounted in manner to provide unobstructed view from driver’s
position. Instrumentation must provide diagnostic capabilities for body and chassis
electrical system.

Hand Throttle / RPM Control:

Electronic RPM control with cruise control.

Switches for RPM control throttle and cruise to be high mount at steering wheel lever so
driver can operate without removing eyes from road.

Heater and Defrosters:

Driver’s heater – Heater shall be installed at front center of vehicle. The heater to be a
fresh air type. Heater controls shall be electronic, automotive style. A defroster channel
shall run the full length of the windshield for maximum defrosting. Heater ducting shall
be distributed at floor and dash level. Defroster system shall direct air to side windows.

Passenger Heater – All heaters to be copper coil design type with aluminum fins.
Heater motor/fan mechanism shall be serviceable without disturbing heater core.
Passenger heaters shall be quipped with replaceable metal filters. Two rear heaters,
one mid-ship and one rear mid-ship each being 84,000 BTU. One 40,000 BTU right
step-well heater.
Hood:

Hood shall be equipped with easy opening fiberglass tilt hood. Engine splash shield
must tilt out of way with the hood needed to gain access for fluid check. Must have
removable grill for easy serviceability. Hood must include rubber lined hood pull for
driver’s comfort. Hood, engine air intake with integrated air intake plenum.

Indentification:

The bus shall be lettered in accordance with all applicable federal and state
requirements. Lettered and numbered to school district specifications.

Insulation:

Ceiling, sides, and rear panels shall be insulated with a minimum 1 ½” thick, blanket-
type polyester insulation to properly deaden sounds, reduce vibration, and provide a
thermal barrier. The insulation shall be fire-resistant of type approved by Underwriters
Laboratories, Inc. A sound absorbing molded cover shall be applied in the driver’s
vestibule area. Interior roof panels to have full acoustical ceiling full length of the bus.

Interior:

All interior ceiling panels to have lapped and hemmed edges. Interior side panels to be
mar-proof aluminized steel from window bottom to floor. The interior body height from
the floor to the roof shall be a minimum of 77”.

Lamps and Signals:

All exterior lights except headlights to be LED.

All lamps shall conform to applicable FMVSS and state laws in effect at time of
manufacture.

Lights to Include:

Cluster – Three (3) LED amber front, three (3) red rear.

Marker – Two (2) LED front corners, two (2) rear corners and two (2) side roof on
bodies longer than 24’

Stop/tail – One (1) LED right rear, one (1) left rear, 48 square inches of illuminated
surface, flush mount design. One (1) right rear, one (1) left rear, 4” minimum, flush
mount design.

Back Up Lamps – Two (2) LED, 28 square inches of illuminated surface, mounted in tail
light assembly flush mount design.

Stepwell – One (1) minimum operating with dome light switch and one exterior light.
Dome – To be located over seat area, minimum of eight (8). Four (4) front half on
rheostat switch and four (4) rear half to be on separate rheostat switch. One (1) driver’s
dome on separate switch.

Directional Rear – One (1) LED amber right and one (1) amber left, shall provide 48
square inches of illuminated surface, flush mount design.

Reflectors – Two (2) on each side of bus, two (2) on rear

Strobe Light – Roof mounted with switch in driver compartment.

Warning Lights – LED – Strobe per State of Idaho Standards.

Lettering:

Lettering (as identified by purchaser) six (6) inch black PAYETTE SCHOOL DIST
NO.371 SCHOOL BUS eight (8) inch black letters front & rear, bus identification number
to district specs.

Mirrors:

Interior mirror to be 6” x 30” safety glass with protected edges mounted on adjustable
overhead track. Exterior rearview mirrors shall be breakaway style meeting FMVSS
and viewed through left side and right side windows. Exterior crossview mirrors shall be
two fender mounted, tripod mount breakaway design. Chassis hood shall be reinforced
with internal backing plates for durability. All exterior mirrors shall be heated.

Miscellaneous:

Tilt steering column.

Heavy-duty power steering gear to have internal pressure relief valves. (Ross or TRW
Only).

Two-quart power steering reservoir capacity for safety and increased cooling capacity.

One-gallon minimum washer fluid bottle capacity

Two front & rear hooks

Mounting:

Bus Body shall be mounted to chassis frame in such a manner as to prevent shifting.
Two (2) bolts are required on each mounting bracket. Rubber mounting pads reinforced
with fiber shall be used to cushion the body on the chassis at every floor cross-member.

Mud Flaps:

Front & rear mud flaps.
Safety Equipment:

Each bus shall be equipped with a first aid kit and body fluid kit meeting state standards,
flares in accordance with FMVSS, and one dry type chemical fire extinguisher mounted
on an accessory panel.


Seats:

Passenger Seats – All seats shall comply with all applicable FMVSS and state
specifications. Seat frames shall be powder coated, non-reflective black. Cushions to
be attached to frame so as to prevent detachment from frame, yet allow for cleaning by
pivoting cushion upright. Upholstery to be 52 oz.

Driver’s Seat – Shall be high back with adjustable seat back. Seat back to recline 15 o
and include adjustable lumbar support. Seat cushion width shall be minimum 20” and
offer forward cushion tilt for optimum driver comfort. Seat slide shall have minimum 7”
adjustment by finger tip control. Air pedestal. Upholstery shall be black fabric insert.
To include right and left arm rest. Bostrom Brand with driver storage pouch.

Driver’s Seat Belt – Shall be a Type II, 3-point belt with an adjustable “D” loop for driver
comfort. The belt shall be of ELR design with a push button release.

Shock Absorbers:

Front and rear dual action type

Stepwell:

The stepwell shall include three (3) full-depth steps. The entrance and egress area
including the top landing area adjacent to the driver’s seat shall be unobstructed by the
engine cover or other components.

Stop Sign:

Second stop sign left side rear. Air operated front crossing arm.

Sun Visor:

Visor to be 6” x 30” dark acrylic.

Suspension:

Front Suspension – 10,000# taper leaf spring with maintenance free rubber bushings

Rear suspension – 21,000# air ride

Tires / Wheels:

Radial tubeless tires, 11R225 16 ply, with mud and snow tread on rear, with hub piloted
wheels.
Transmission:

Allison PTS 2500 series transmission


Two-way radio:

Furnish & install Kenwood brand (no exceptions) 2-way radio (programmed to district
specs) 45 watt UHF radio to include a 3db gain antenna.


Undercoating:

Entire underbody shall be completely undercoated with asphalt emulsion water based
undercoating after body to chassis mounting for maximum rust proofing.

Ventilation:

Body shall be equipped with static type, non-adjustable exhaust ventilator located in
low- pressure area of front roof.

Warning system:

Low oil pressure, high water temp and low air pressure warning light and buzzer.

Wheelbase:

Wheelbase shall be 276” minimum.

Windows:

Two-piece side windows shall be tempered safety glass in flat black frames. The top
potion of the side windows shall be capable of being lowered to a position that provides
an opening at lease 12” high x 25” wide. Windows must be accessible for removal
without lowering the wiring harness access panel. All passenger windows shall
incorporate 3” aluminum mullion bar design. Rear door glass shall be bonded, flat
safety type. Driver’s window shall be double-sliding sash with tempered safety glass.
All interior and exterior side window frames shall be flat black. Tinted glass on all
windows.

Windshield Washer:

Dual electric wet arm type windshield washers are required

Windshield Wipers:

Bus shall be equipped with two (2) heavy-duty wet arm type bottom mounted wipers
resulting in 1,537 square inches of wiped windshield. Wipers shall be intermittent.
Warranty:

Body – 1 year unlimited mileage
Engine – 5 year unlimited mileage minimum
      Must include electronic modules, fuel pump, nozzles, and sensors
Base Chassis – 1 year unlimited mileage minimum



OPTIONS – Bid as separate items

      1. Webasco or equal Auxilary heater with time control. 45,000 BTU.
      2. Substitute Crossover mirrors with High Definition Mirrorlite brand or equal.
