                           PRESIDENTS REPORT

It seems like only yesterday that I was writing about the 2006 season and now
here we are, 12 months later and 2007 has come and gone. A year that
delivered so many obstacles for us to overcome, with the drought meaning we
had no ground for pre-season and even two weeks before round one it looked
like we would not have one for the season and of course the loss of 25
players from last year meant we were somewhat behind the proverbial eight
ball.

However despite the problems we faced we have come out of the season with
many happy memories and a thirst for 2008 to begin. There are many people
who I would like to acknowledge for the work they have done this year and I
apologise to any that I don’t mention.

The senior team led by Brett Davidson, Marco Bello, Travis Stephens, Ritchie
Spurr and captain Sam McCallum have provided the club with our first senior
back to back finals appearance since 1986, 87 and 88. Whilst we were
ultimately not quite good enough our pair of victories over eventual premiers
Doncaster East showed us just what might have been.

The reserves led by Jay Nealy, Rob Hay and captains Craig Myers and
Danny Mihran suffered from our player loss most of all as regular reserve
players from last year spent the year in the seniors. They ended the year in
fine form but just missed out on a finals berth. The strength of the team
though can be judged by the fact that the players who were called up to the
seniors acquitted themselves so well.

Our new (old) boys this year the veterans gave us so much entertainment and
thanks go to John Charman, Jamie Shevlin, John Krikas and Joe Scott for
everything they did in getting the team together. Whilst success on the field
wasn’t forthcoming the results off the field were fantastic.

Thanks to our wonderful training staff, Kenny, John and Ksana. These
people our harder to find than a ruckman but are much more valuable.
Welcome once again to John and Ksana and we hope you stay for many
years.

To those who helped out on match days, canteen girls Ash, Candice and
Nicola, gatekeeper Steve, scoreboard attendant Ron along with Al McQuitty,
Paul Jones, Martin Hesketh, John Krikas and the Daggers boys thank you.

Delia and Adrian Meagher who assist in so many ways to support the club in
particular with meals for social events and lunches your work is never taken
for granted from us.

To all the award winners congratulations, particularly to our newest life
members, Kerrie Bennett, Mark Hodge, Alan Daggers and James MacRae a
more worthy group you would not find at any club. And to the best clubman

Paul Jones the support you have given to this club is incredible and we should
all be thankful for it.

Our valued sponsors who have stuck with us we are very grateful and I
encourage everyone at the club to at least give them the opportunity to
service your needs.

To my fellow committee members I have enjoyed working with you and can
truly say that you are the lifeblood of this footy club. We know that we must
get better in our off field management and draw new blood onto the
committee. Off field strength translates to on field success more often than
the reverse.

We are faced with many challenges in the years ahead and need to pull
together to ensure that our club continues on into the future. I started on the
committee in 1998 and in that year our total income was around $59,000
which included over $20,000 received from Bingo. This year it has almost
reached $180,000. A fantastic effort considering the lack of support given to
some of our fundraising and social events. To ensure success and survival it
needs to push up to the $200,000 mark next year.

This will be my last president’s report as after seven years all up I have
decided to move onto other areas. Next year I will head up a new junior
division including Auskick. I believe that the challenge will be even greater
than running the senior club however this is one step towards a successful
future.

I urge you all to stick with us in 2008 and support in every way you can.

‘Cavere Panthera Leo ‘

                       SENIOR COACHES REPORT

With the echoes of a preliminary final defeat ringing in our ears, the blueprint
for 2007 was born…..what did we need to take the next step in 07?

    Greater fitness
    More on field discipline
 A stronger, tougher and quicker midfield

As we prepared for our preseason we faced the prospect of 2007 without the
services of Adam Douglas, Trent Stonehouse, Mark Randazzo, Damian
Sampimon, Tim Hargreaves, Scott Glover, Nick Dutton and Daniel Bellissimo
– all key ingredients in our quest for success in 06!!!

We regained the services of 5 time Central Districts B & F, Marco Bello from
injury, recruited Brendan Sharpe, Cam Ross, Dean Parker and Kurt
Henderson and began a tough preseason with the emphasis on fitness and
team structures. The drought meant that training areas became difficult to
secure, our start to the season was postponed and scheduling of practice
matches was a nightmare, with weekly cancellations and changes!

The commitment of our senior group was encouraging, particularly the desire
of Robbie Papp, David Burley and Gareth Britten in their quest to cement a
place in the senior team.

Our practice match form was promising, with convincing victories over
Thornton-Eildon and Oakleigh Districts and we headed into our first game
against Coldstream with enthusiasm and determination.

One of our team aims was to begin the season well, something that we have
struggled with in the past, and we succeeded with 3 solid wins against
Coldstream and Mooroolbark (away) and Warrandyte at home. We stumbled
in the next 2 games against Waverley Blues and Boronia and headed into the
bye sitting in the four, only one game from the top position. Our season would
be decided over the next 6 games when we would play the top side
(Doncaster East) twice and fellow final four aspirants Templestowe,
Coldstream and Upper Gully!! Further to this challenge was the prospect that
we had never defeated Doncaster East while in Division 3!!!

Defeating Doncaster East twice was one of the true highlights that the club
had in 2007, and wins against Templestowe and Coldstream (again) would
allow us to sit in fourth spot, 3 games clear from fifth after round 13!!

Unfortunately during the next 3 games we were to suffer many injuries to key
players and we subsequently stumbled against teams below us, only winning
against the bottom team, Warrandyte by 8pts and while the final weeks were
somewhat tense, the fact that we were guaranteed a finals berth before round
18 was a position the club had not faced since leaving 4th Division.

Nunawading Football Club Inc. Annual Report 2007 7
Our Finals campaign was to begin against UFTG, a team that had beaten us
twice throughout the season. The senior playing group accepted the
challenge and we approached the game with understated confidence. Our
general play in the first 3 quarters of the final was as good as we had played
all season, however we were unable to translate our dominance into
scoreboard pressure. With 36 scoring shots to 18 and to be only 18 pts in
front meant that we needed to continue our ground pressure for 1 more
quarter to move into a preliminary final against Boronia. Unfortunately UFTG
responded as finals teams do and managed to overrun us to the tune of 15
pts. Our inability to put the game away in the earlier quarters was to prove
our eventual downfall – something that we hope will burn in the belly until we
begin our 08 campaign.

While we were disappointed with our season ending, we continued to gain
respect from the competition and we proved that promotion within is as
successful a recruiting strategy as is looking outside.

My thanks to Marco Bello and Travis Stephens whose work as Assistant
Coaches enabled me to concentrate on other areas of coaching. The work of
our leadership group, Captain, Sam McCallum and Vice Captains, Sam
Bates, Andrew Goland and Adam Tobin cannot be underestimated and the
work of Richie Spurr as Player analyst was instrumental in us being as well
prepared as we were.

The work of Kenny Evans–Smith and the recruiting of John Albert
and Ksana Wirubov meant that our ability to assess player injuries was as
good as anyone in the competition.

My thanks also to our ‘training stalwarts’ Henry Polak and Peter Goland.
Their contribution to our preparation was second to none – they are the one
constant in the club for the players, whether it be buying and cutting up fruit
during every session in preseason or collecting and serving our pasta on
Thursday nights, these 2 guys have been the backbone to the soul of the
club. From each and every member of the playing group – Thank you.

A final individual thank you to John Charman who had the stated role of Team
manager but actually was the mister fixit – boundary umpire, goal umpire,
runner, water boy – no request was too much for him…as well as being the
Vets Super Coach!!!!!

To all our Sponsors, and committee, thank you for continuing to support the
playing group and enabling us to do what we do best – play football!!!

Finally, 2008 – what does it hold for us? We need to do EVERYTHING better,
training, recruiting, gaining sponsorship and off field assistance. This is OUR
opportunity to shine and we need to make sure that we take the attitude ‘2008
– Whatever it takes!!!’

                     RESERVES COACHES REPORT
The 2007 season started well with all expecting the 2’s to back up a wonderful
2006 season. We picked up a few inclusions over the off season but lost a
handful of premiership players to overseas trips and retirements. I still felt
that we had a strong core of solid 2’s players.

Our 1st game was out at Coldstream and with everyone healthy we disposed
of them with ease. Around the half way mark of the year we were sitting
comfortably in 2nd spot with a very healthy percentage, and then came the
injuries, not only to our senior side but also the 2’s. Not like last year were
we had depth with at least 4 to 6 players missing out each week our boys
started to be tested having to resort to calling around on a Thursday night at
selection to find players and if anybody knows about footy it becomes very
difficult to find players at such late notice. But to our and the guys who filled
in for us’ credit we were able to win a couple but losing became a reality and
we dropped from 2nd to 6th and with injuries still coming we found it difficult to
catch the teams in the four.

With the season in its dying stages the boys dug deep and won more than we
lost keeping in touch with the four. At this stage of the season and finally with
senior injuries coming back our 2’s started to get back a formidable side, one
in which the top teams were wary of. Things came down to the last game
against Upper Gully and with pretty much our best team in weeks in and
playing a side we always have great battles with and who were also still in
with a chance of finals themselves we knew that we just had to win. And win
we did in spectacular fashion in an outstanding team performance winning by
10 goals. But unfortunately Waverley defeated the 2nd side in Doncaster East
which cost us a spot in the four by half a game. Disappointing for all but such
is life and life in football.

Overall the season had lots of ups and downs but it was still Nunawading’s
fighting spirit which kept us in with a chance of playing finals footy. As it’s
now the end of my brief coaching career I have had much pleasure coaching
or directing a fantastic bunch of guys of whom I will call mates for life.

I have many thanks and congratulations to mention to all award winners with
special congrat’s to Josh Williams for winning the best and fairest and Craig
Myers and Michael Jones runners up, well done. Also massive thanks to
Rob Hay who is a wonderful friend and mentor to me. As a player in my days
at Scoresby his guidance was always welcome and as a senior head on my
bench he was always constructive so thank you. To the guys who went on to
play their first game of senior football this year well done, make sure it doesn’t
stop here, Michael Jones, Sam Hesketh and Matt Jamieson congrat’s.

To my leaders who I thank dearly, Craig Myers and Danny Mihran were
fantastic all year keeping a positive on things when the season was slipping
away, very reliable and always helpful with anything I needed, cheers lads.

A massive thank you so much to all involved at committee level and beyond
for giving me an opportunity to coach two wonderful years. I have learnt a lot

about myself as a coach, footballer and a person in this time so I’m truly
grateful. And last of all thank you to my boy’s for sticking by me when times
got a bit tough. I wish you all the best in the up and coming years as I know
with this list we have and adding to our depth another flag beckons.

Good luck and thanks.

Go Nuna!

                     VETERANS COACHES REPORT
Well, who would have thought that Nunawading F.C. could field a side in the
Veterans comp.

I had absolute confidence we could and this time last year was approached by
Jamie Shevlin to coach the side. Given an ex player list of 60 we set to work.

The first game of the year saw us go down narrowly to Kilsyth with just 19
players. We were competitive in all but one game and were a strong chance
of winning in five of our matches. Whilst we didn’t get that elusive win I’m
sure we gained a lot of respect from the opposition. In total we had 39
players play for us during the year with 8 on the bench in the last game.

I am immensely proud of the players and the people who surrounded me and
am sure that great friendships were made during the year. Congratulations
to Joe Scott, Jamie Shevlin, John Krikas and Mark Bellissimo on their awards.

To John Tasiopolous and Mark Hodge thanks for your leadership. To Peter,
David and Gordon thanks for you time and efforts and to Katie, Sally and
Kenny for keeping the boys going on the ground your support has been
invaluable

I hope that we can do it again next year ‘2008 Whatever it Takes’. Once
again thanks to the playing list and all that helped out with the Vets this year.

All the best

                                       THE 200 CLUB
The 200 Club is a coterie group set up to support the football club by providing extra
funds through its membership. This year we had 26 members of the club who payed
$200 to join and enjoyed afternoon tea at all home games, two lunches (catered by Delia
Meagher) and two $500 cash draws. The 200 Club provided funds of $3,500 to the
football club in 2007. The aim is to expand the 200 Club in the future into a true coterie
group that will pay for items outside of the club budget (eg honour board updating, trophy
cabinets etc).

Our thanks go to the members of this year’s 200 Club and we look forward to them
coming on board in 2008. The members in 2007 were:

Brock Arifovic Tim Cron Bill Oakman
