MALACCA LISTED AS UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE:
In celebration The Majestic Malacca presents a specially designed heritage discovery package

The World Heritage Committee meeting in Quebec City on July 7th 2008 saw Malacca added as a
new cultural site to UNESCO’s World Heritage List. The listing inscription mentions, ‘This
historic city along the Straits of Malacca has developed in over 500 years of trading and cultural
exchanges between East and West. The influences of Asia and Europe have endowed (Malacca)
with a specific multicultural heritage that is both tangible and intangible. With its government
buildings, churches, squares and fortifications, Malacca demonstrates the early stages of this
history originating in the 15th-century Malay sultanate and the Portuguese and Dutch periods
beginning in the early 16th century. The (city) constitutes a unique architectural and cultural
townscape without parallel (outside Malaysia) anywhere in East and Southeast Asia.’

In conjunction with this momentous occasion, The Majestic Malacca, YTL Hotels’ first Classic
Hotel, has designed a special package as a way for its guests to discover this World Heritage city.
The experience begins when you step into the boutique hotel that rests peacefully on the banks of
the Malacca River. Reflections of this historic trading port resonate within the intimacy and
luxury of this beautiful hotel, designed to provide experiences that are anchored in the past, but
woven together with every modern convenience. The architectural style of the hotel mirrors
Malacca’s multi-faceted and historically rich past, with influences from the Portuguese, the
Dutch, the British and the Peranakan cultures. These influences permeate the hotel and are
reflected in the teakwood fittings, leather furniture and traditional Portuguese porcelain flooring,
enhanced by authentic artwork and antiques all of which echo the history of the region. In the
rooms, four-poster beds decorated in a mixture of rich silks and cool cotton, vintage four-legged
pedestal bathtubs, provide the comfort and romance required by discerning modern travelers.

The experience of discovering Malacca’s unique heritage continues in the hotel’s Spa Village, the
world’s only spa to base its therapies on the healing heritage of the Baba-Nyonya, also known as
the Peranakan – a unique combination of Chinese and Malay influences. The spa is built over
two-storeys with rich cultural accents reflective of Malacca’s past; intricate traditional wood
carving, finely detailed porcelain wall tiles and traditional Peranakan daybeds bathed in muted
sunlight from floor to ceiling windows.

Completing the experience, a unique guided tour of the historical city of Malacca has been
created exclusively for guests of The Majestic Malacca. The hotel’s resident historical guide will
take guests for an insightful journey through the city, each corner revealing a little more of its
past. Guests will be able to select from or experience all three unique historical tours: (1) The
Route to Malacca’s History, provides a glimpse into the splendid saga of an extraordinary empire
founded centuries ago by a Sumatran prince; (2) Treasures of Old Malaccan Streets, reveals the
soul of Malacca and its roots reflected in the buildings and streets where the Chinese, Thai, Arab,
Portuguese, Dutch and British have all left their imprint, making it Malaysia’s most historically
interesting city; and (3) The Empress’ Hill at Bukit Cina, a gentle trek that offers a commanding
bird’s-eye view of Malacca City’s shoreline and landscape, a site used by the first Chinese
entourage that arrived in Malacca to foster trade relations with the ruling prince in the 15 th
century.

The Majestic Malacca has created a ‘Unesco World Heritage Package’ experience at a special
rate of RM699nett per room, this will be for one night in a Deluxe room, with
breakfast, lunch and dinner (excluding beverages) and one guided tour around Malacca City, a
Unesco World Heritage site, the experience is for two persons and will be available for bookings
made to travel from July 15th until June 30th 2008.
