County awards $1.47 million contract for construction of Gulf Gate sidewalks
Work is expected to begin this month on construction of 5.56 miles of sidewalks in the Gulf Gate community after the Sarasota County Commission Tuesday awarded a $1.47 million contact to E.T. MacKenzie of Florida Inc. of Bradenton. The Gulf Gate Elementary School Sidewalks and Neighborhood Enhancement project – part of the commission’s sidewalks-to-schools initiative – is a fast-track project under the county’s local economic stimulus program. It will provide 5-foot-wide sidewalks on the following sections of streets: Lockwood Ridge Road, Gypsy Street to Savage Road Ashton Road, Swift Road to Beneva Road Brooklyn Avenue, Fox Run Road to Clark Road Colonial Drive, Clark Road to Williamsburg Street Nelson Avenue, Clark Road to Mayflower Street Mayflower Street, Lockwood Ridge Road to Nelson Avenue Savage Road, Seagate Avenue to Lockwood Ridge Road Beechwood Avenue, South Tamiami Trail to Stickney Point Road Brueckner Avenue, South Tamiami Trail to Mariana Drive Pinehurst Street, South Tamiami Trail to Beneva Road Captivia Drive, Tuckerstown Drive to Beneva Road
The project also includes earthwork, construction of driveway aprons and installation of stormwater pipes, catch basins and drop inlets. Project completion is expected in November.
