					MESSAGE FROM THE CONFERENCE CHAIRS
We are pleased to welcome you to the beautiful harbourside city of
Sydney, and to the inaugural International Conference on Advances in
Structures: Steel, Concrete, Composite and Aluminium (ASSCCA ’03).
As a sequel to the 4th International Conference on Steel and Aluminium
Structures (ICSAS) held in Helsinki in 1999 and to the 6th International
Conference on Composite and Hybrid Structures (ASCCS) held in Los
Angeles in 2000, it is pleasing to see so many delegates in Sydney
who have supported these earlier symposia.

The response to our call for papers was overwhelming, and about 192
papers have been selected to be presented by delegates from over
35 countries. In addition, six keynote papers will be delivered by experts
in structural engineering from leading international research institutions
and industry.

In addition to the interesting technical programme, a number of social
functions have also been planned during the duration of the conference
so that we hope you can experience the warmth and beauty of the city
of which we are so proud.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to all delegates for
responding to our call to attend ASSCCA’03, and to making it a success.
On behalf of the organising committee, we wish you a pleasant and
fruitful stay in Sydney and thank you for being here with us.

As a final thought, delegates might like to consider the future of the
combined conference during the course of the conference. Should
we continue with a combined conference or should we return to the
original series? If you have strong views on this, please convey them
to the organising committee members for future consideration.

Prof. Shosuke Morino
