Las Cruces Museum of Art Narration Group tours, extensive art classes, studio productions, and various exhibits are what you will find at the Las Cruces Museum of Art. Owned by the city of Las Cruces, the museum also offers group and school tours in an effort to engage and inspire their diverse audience. Lisa Pugh is the museum manager and gives an introduction of what the museum has to offer. “Well the museum is located at the north end of the downtown mall. We host exhibits in the main gallery and in a few spaces off to the side, and there are also several classrooms. We show contemporary art in a variety of media including photography, print making, sculpture, painting, and ceramics. The building was purchased in 1999 and renovated for use as museum space. Before 1999, the building was used as office space and it was once home to an auto parts store.” You can also enjoy a variety of art classes offered at the museum like digital photography, ceramics, drawing and painting, weaving, mixed media, and Mythological Art. Pugh believes that the museum’s small size is an advantage. “As a small museum we’re dedicated to serving the community. We’re also able to offer visitors the opportunity to see some unique and exciting exhibitions, and it’s a smaller, more personal venue than you would have in a larger metropolitan museum. We also serve as a venue for some really exceptional up-and-coming artists. The museum is easily accessible and in most cases admission is free.” No matter what kind of art you are interested in, you’ll find it at the Las Cruces Museum of Art. Stop by and sign up for some of their classes. Who knows, maybe one day some of your pieces will end up being a future exhibit.
