Preparation:

 Arrange the students in groups/teams and project the activity:

Stage / Time Procedure

Introduction 1. Tell the students to imagine that they are going to spend their
holiday abroad in an English speaking country. Elicit the names of
some of these countries (e.g. England, U.S.A…etc) and also the
cities that the students want to go to (e.g. Manchester,
+/- 5 mins
                        Sydney…etc).

                     2. Write the names of the countries up on the board and the names
of the cities under their country.

                     3. You could ask them to brainstorm further cities for each country.

Game 1. Tell the students that they are going to play a game to learn more
                        about English speaking countries.

                     2. Split the class into 5 groups/teams and project the activity:
+/- 10 mins http://learnenglishkids.britishcouncil.org/en/language-games/label-
                        the-picture-new/english-speaking-countries

                     3. The groups/ teams then take turns sending up a representative.

                     4. Begin with the representative of group 1 and ask him/her to drag
the country name to the correct place on the map. If he/she can
get a match, he/she continues by clicking on the correct flag.
He/she then chooses the famous city from that country.

                     5. Award 1 point for each correct guess (i.e. location, flag & city).

                     6. The other 4 group representatives then repeat the procedure until
all 5 countries have been done.

Writing 1. Tell the students that now they are going to write about the
country they want to visit in their notebooks.
                     2. Write a few prompts up on the board (e.g. Where do you want to
5 + mins go? Why do you want to go there? What would you like to
                        see/eat/do…etc?).
                     3. When they have finished, ask them to share their ideas/writings
with each other in small groups.

Extension 1. If time is not a problem ask a few students to take turns coming to
the front and telling their classmates about the country they would
                        like to visit and why.

Option 3: Computer lab
Preparation:

 Arrange the students in pairs and get them to open the activity:
