DEPLOYABLE SOLUTIONS

In providing custom integrated solutions for a number of defence programmes, Centerprise have developed a
number of deployable IT solutions. Centerprise have conducted extensive testing on these systems, and may
are in use in harsh environments around the world.

An example integrated solution, shown with case lids removed

While these systems have been designed for specific projects, they can also operate individually or be
customised to meet the needs of other applications. As proven and tested technologies, this can significantly
reduce the risk to new projects, and enable rapid deployment of these technologies to support active
operations.

Deployable solutions have been grouped into five key areas.

 Deployable High Performance Computing solutions
     Deployable Communications solutions
     Deployable Power solutions
     Deployable Sensor solutions
     Custom Deployable IT Solutions.

Cases are available with a modular network and power design, allowing multiple cases to be “stacked”, linking
together to provide a unified network solution, and unified power supply from a Tactical UPS. This can greatly
simply the deployment of complex technologies.

Voice communications over a normal satellite uplink are Unclassified only. A suitable router solution can also
multiplex voice onto the secure encrypted data link, and so provide voice communication at the same
classification as the support system.

A number of different Voice connections are possible

This solution also has the advantage that it frees up voice communications ports on the satellite uplink,
allowing BRENT2 or other secure communications systems to be used. These systems in and of themselves
can provide secure voice and data communications, and could be used to encrypt the uplink service, or
provide parallel services where enhanced encryption is required.

VOICE OPTIMISATION

Additionally a voice optimiser can significantly reduce the bandwidth of telephone
calls across the wide area, dropping chargeable bandwidth use from 64kbps to as
little as 2 kbps.

NETWORK OPTIMISATION

Using Performance Enhancing Proxies, the applications can be optimised to better utilise the available satellite
bandwidth, while the total amount of data to be transmitted can be compressed.

Compression can save significantly on the amount of data transmitted, and hence provide significant savings
on operational expenditure where satellite services typically charge by the amount of data transmitted.

Using these technologies, the proxy can auto-learn or be pre-loaded with significant amounts of data, meaning
that only changes need be carried over the satellite service. This can be significant where software or anti-
virus updates are concerned, as significant data may remain unchanged, with few additions or alterations.
Errors can also be recovered by retransmitting only the small segment of data that has changed, rather than
the whole file. Even if the file transfer was to experience a service disruption, the segments already
transferred would be learned and remembered, avoiding expensive retransmissions in reduced service
environments.

During tests on SMB (windows file transfer), the optimiser reduced the chargeable bandwidth consumed by up
to 30% on initial transfers, and by up to 98% on repeat transfers, even where the repeated transfer was
similar, but not identical (such as different software versions).

DEPLOYABLE POWER TACTICAL UPS CASE

The Deployable Power Tactical UPS Case provides a cost effective solution to any requirement to deploy to
unknown locations. In todays evolving battlefield, coalition operations are commonplace, yet voltage and
frequency can vary significantly, requiring separate custom solutions for each location.

Using the Tactical UPS case, any input between 120 and 240Vac can be accommodated at 50 or 60 Hz. UPS
protection prevents the loss of service during power outages when generators are swapped, maintained, or
refuelled, or where local mains supplies are unreliable. The Tactical UPS Case can service UK standard 240Vac
50Hz equipment in almost any location, on almost any mains supply.

The UPS can operate at temperatures between -20 and +50 degrees.

CONTAINER OR VEHICLE MOUNTED EXTERNAL SYSTEMS ENCLOSURE

This rugged external systems enclosure provides protection and a sealed environment for delicate IT
equipment.

Sealed to IP67 the enclosure is split into two units, each of which can support solid state environmental
control, cooling up 380 Watts of equipment in each unit.

Optionally, the lower unit can be provided without environmental control, reducing the overall electrical
supply requirements where some equipment can withstand higher temperatures.

Where greater cooling capacity is reqired, another option allows water cooled heat exchangers to be mounted
below the unit (or at any other location on the vehicle/container), allowing a greater density of equipment to
be installed within.

The enclosure can be sized to specific requirements, fitting the available space on vehicle or container, or
providing protection to specific equipment. The enclosure can be fitted with drains or dessicant to prevent
condensation.

A covered Data Input Panel at the rear of the lower section allows for presentation of connectors. The cover
also provides the connectors with shelter from precipitation when deployed. The cabinet door can be securely
locked to prevent unauthorised access if the container of vehicle is left unattended or deployed.

RAPID DEPLOYMENT MODULAR DATACENTER

Using the modular framework, the Rapid
Deployment Equipment Room can expand up to
any size, and has been designed to provide
         complete datacenter facilities.

This provides significant advantages in deployment
            time, cost, and preparation.

BUILD A COMPLETE DATACENTER, ANYWHERE, IN A MATTER OF DAYS.

Building a modular datacenter brings all of the benefits of the rapid deployment equipment room, allowing a
large installation to be completed in a matter of days, with basic tools, minimal training, and with all
infrastructure built in, using palletised materials

BUILD A DATACENTER IN LOCATIONS THAT WOULD OTHERWISE BE UNSUITABLE.

The modular sections distribute the load of floor, rack, and infrastructure, allowing the datacenter to be built
with minimal ground preparations. In this way the unit can be installed in locations that would otherwise be
unable to support the weight and building works.

This can also provide advantages for security, as the datacenter can be built in unexpected or covert locations.
The system can also be assembled inside existing buildings that have not been specifically designed for IT
equipment, offering a rapid solution for integrating IT into any location.

FIXED NETWORK INFRASTRUCTURE – PASSIVE FIBRE OPTIC

Fiber optics has a large variety of uses. Most common and widely used in communication systems, fiber optic
communication systems have a variety of features that make it superior to the systems that use the traditional
copper cables. The use of fiber optics with these systems uses a larger information-carrying capacity where
they are not hassled with electrical interference and require fewer amplifiers than the copper cable systems.
Fiber optic communication systems are installed in large networks of fiber optic bundles all around the world.

FIBRE ELEMENTS

TIGHT BUFFERED CABLE

With tight-buffered cable designs, the buffering material is in direct
contact with the fibre This design is suited for "jumper cables" which
connect outside plant cables to terminal equipment, and also for linking
various devices in a premises network.
Multi-fibre, tight-buffered cables often are used for intra-building, risers,
general building and plenum applications.
The tight-buffered design provides a rugged cable structure to protect
individual fibres during handling, routing and connecting Yarn strength
members keep the tensile load away from the fibre

LOOSE TUBE CABLE
In a loose-tube cable design, colour coded plastic buffer tubes house and protect optical fibres A gel filling
compound impedes water penetration. Excess fibre length (relative to buffer tube length) insulates fibres from
stresses of installation and environmental loading. Buffer tubes are stranded around a dielectric or steel
central member, which serves as an anti-buckling element.
The cable core, typically uses aramid yarn, as the primary tensile strength member. The outer polyethylene
jacket is extruded over the core. If armouring is required, a corrugated steel tape is formed around a single
jacketed cable with an additional jacket extruded over the armour.
Loose-tube cables typically are used for outside-plant installation in aerial, duct and direct-buried applications.

FIBRE ADAPTERS
Fibre optic adapter are used in fibre optic connection, the typical use is to
provide a cable to cable fibre connection. People sometimes also name
them to be mating sleeves and hybrid adaptors ,mating sleeves means
this fibre optic adapter is used to connect the same type fibre optic
connectors ,while hybrid adaptors are the fibre optic adaptor types used
to connect different kinds of fibre optic connectors.

FIBRE PANELS
Rack mount fiber optic patch panels are used to terminate and distribute
optical fiber cables, they are convenient equipment to organize and
connect the fiber optic links.

FIBRE CONNECTORS

MT-RJ
Used for networking applications. It's actually a little smaller than a standard
phone jack, and just as easy to connect and disconnect. It's half the size of the
SC connector it was designed to replace.

ST
One of the most commonly used fiber optic connectors in networking
applications. Cylindrical with twist lock coupling, 2.5mm keyed ferrule. For
both short distances applications and long line systems

SC
Used frequently for newer network applications. Square, keyed connector
with push-pull mating, 2.5mm ferrule and moulded housing for protection

HMA
Used in tactical applications and harsh environments, HMA is an expanded
beam connector. Expanding the beam at the connector significantly reduces
the impact of dirt or misalignment, allowing useable signal strengths to be
maintained in field or industrial applications

MTP
MTP is a high density interconnect for single or multimode fibre. Each MTP
contains 12 fibres or 6 duplex channels in a connector smaller than most
duplex connections in use today. It is designed as a high-performance version
of the older MPO connector, and will interconnect with MPO connectors.
It is the same size as a single SC connector but provides up to 12 times the
density, thereby offering savings in circuit card and rack space.

HellermannTyton, has developed a RapidNet ready cabinet that accommodates RapidNet cassettes vertically
without taking up any horizontal rack space.

 Maximises space for active equipment
 Provides additional space for future network expansion
 Up to 288 additional copper ports and 1,152 in fibre (based on 4 mounting posts in 42U cabinet)
 Accommodates fibre and copper RapidNet
 Improves air flow through the cabinet

The cabinet is ideal for the data centre environment and comms rooms where space is limited. Additional
connectivity comes at a premium and maximising revenue per square metre is essential.

The RapidNet cassette simply pushes into the shroud, already in situ on the cabinet upright. The cable looms
are then tied to the mesh on the side of the cabinet.

ZEROU APPLICATIONS

The ZeroU cabinet offers many options making it suitable for a number of different applications.

Smaller cabinets in the range are ideal for the smaller comms room. Where additional patching and airflow are
important but in an area where space is limited, the ZeroU cabinet can offer additional ports for connectivity.

Larger cabinets are more suited to the data centre environment where significantly more patching and active
equipment is required. The added height of the cabinet offers additional patching for fibre and copper ports.
The different sized cabinets for the varied applications can be used as ‘patching only’ cabinets or as ‘mixed
technology’ cabinets. In both instances the ZeroU cabinet offers the benefit of increased patching and
improved air flow.
