Year End Newsletter 2009 Year End 09 Success means doing the best we can with what we have. Success is the doing, not the getting; in the trying, not the triumph. Success is a personal standard, reaching for the highest that is in us, becoming all that we can be.” --Zig Ziglar not yet enrolled, please call the office for a packet. ATHENA MONTESSORI ACADEMY Enrollment Agreements and all paperwork for summer were due May 15. Summer tuition will be due June 1. You may divide summer tuition in two installments--half paid June 1 and the balance on July 1. ________________________________ KidStar Performing Arts Camp Still looking for something fabulous for your children to do towards the end of summer before school starts? Miss Joan and Mr. Billy still have room in their twoweek performing arts camp for children ages 4-8 from July 27 to August 7. KIDSTAR is a two-week creative, handson performing and fine arts camp which concludes with a musical dance performance in the gym. Flyers are available in the office or you can contact Miss Joan directly at 517-3214. ________________________________ Re-enrollment Packets Due If your child or children are returning to Athena next school year, your reenrollment paperwork was due last Friday, May 15. Every family is required to submit the new Enrollment Agreement for 2009-2010, as well as the signed updated Parent Policy Handbook, and any other paperwork that may need to be updated in your child’s file. Please call Mary if you have any questions or are unable to locate your packet that you should have received in the mail a few weeks ago. ________________________________ Susan’s Art Photos of Every Child! If you didn’t make it to the fundraiser at Karma Lounge, you may not have seen your child’s Art Photo, by Susan Urano. Throughout the year Susan has been photographing all Athena students and has done a beautiful job customizing the image in an artistic fashion. The remaining photos are on display in your child’s classroom or can be obtained through the office or Susan directly. Suggested donation is $20 per image. Thank you Susan for your creativity and donated efforts for Athena! _____________________________ THANK YOU FOR AN AMAZING Susan’s Art Photos THIRD YEAR AT ATHENA! I can hardly believe that we are coming to the end of our third school year at Athena Montessori Academy! The magic of Montessori happens in three year cycles and it is your precious children, our amazing staff and an incredible group of supportive parents that have helped shape this magical community. I am so proud of what we have collectively created at Athena and grateful to all of you for helping this dream come true. Thank you! _____________________________ Primary 1 Peace T-Shirts for Sale Hopefully you had a chance to see the PEACE poster that was the Primary 1 live auction item of all of the Primary 1 students photographed to form the word “Peace”. The piece was so sought after that its designer, Sarah Greene Reed (Luca’s Mom), has uploaded the image to a variety of products on Cafepress.com, including children’s tshirts, adults t-shirts, coffee mugs and mouse pads. Sarah has generously offered to donate the profits to Athena so you can get some groovy Athena memorabilia and support the school at the same time! Go to: http:// www.cafepress.com/Athena_Peace. to make your purchase! ________________________________ Gates of Life Graduation Ceremony Wednesday, June 3, is the last day of school for the 2008-2009 school year. Please join us in the gym at 9:00 a.m. for Sing Song and our special Gates of Life Ceremony to recognize and honor those students who will be leaving our community. ____________________________ Summer Camp 2009 Our summer camp this year will be a blast...from the past! In addition to continued Montessori lessons, we will be visiting different “times” and engaging in dress-up and dramatic play, crafts, sports and games, water play, art and art history. We have a series of special guest storytellers, musicians, and special classes in gymnastics, dance, yoga and acting--all included in tuition! Summer Camp dates this year are June 15 to July 24 and the class rosters are almost finalized. We have one space available in the Pre-Primary class during the weeks of July 6 through July 24. We may still have one or two spaces left in the Primary program as well. If you are interested in summer camp and Mary as Foxy Brown Spring Fundraiser and Disco Party Huge thanks to all of you who helped make our end-of-year fundraiser a huge success! I feel so grateful for the outpouring of support and generosity from students, parents, staff, family and friends of Athena through your gifts of love, time, energy, resources, donations and efforts. And for those Fundraising Proceeds We are still tallying the final amounts of expenses and donations as they come in, and our best estimate right now is that we raised around $9500! The bulk of the proceeds are going towards installation of DuraPlay surfacing in our courtyard. The green and terra cotta colors will form tricycle tracks and parking spaces for the trikes in the courtyard, and will provide a cool, porous, soft surface for the children! This new surfacing will not only look great and be safer for the children, but it will also help us with our water overflow in heavy rains to help mitigate flooding in the garage and classroom. Yey! Any remaining proceeds will be distributed to the classrooms for materials for the children! Thank you so much for your generosity and support of our fundraising efforts. _____________________________ Bid on Remaining Auction Items! Thank you to Penelope’s parents, Marisela Godinas and Yves Macias, and their restaurant El Meson Taqueria, for the incredible fajitas and side dishes.
