London 2012 Open Weekend
This year’s London 2012 Open Weekend has been launched. Sponsored
by BP, the Open Weekend (24 -26 July) presents an opportunity to
showcase activity, inspire, engage and be part of a UK-wide celebration of
the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Stories of the World launched
Major museums and libraries are preparing to host Stories of the World,
one of the major projects of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad. The
project is a series of exciting exhibitions that will reconnect museum
collections with the people and communities they came from.

Olympic Park visit inspires East Midlands businesses
Thirty business people from the East Midlands have visited the Olympic
Park. The business people went on a tour of the Park to see how the
development is taking shape, and also met a number of contractors who
talked about the way they appoint suppliers to work with them.

Region’s local authorities take up Free Swimming
Local authorities in the region have made a splash by opting into the Free
Swimming initiative for under 16’s and the over 60’s. 12 projects across
ten local authorities have also secured Sport England funding totalling over
£5 million from the capital modernisation programme.

Three Cities Plus and 2010 Showcase: call for proposals
A reminder that if you have a great idea for an Olympic inspired project or
event you can be part of the 2010 'Festival of Festivals' happening around
the three cities and counties of Derbyshire, Leicestershire and
Nottinghamshire. Closing date is 8th May. For more information email:

East Midlands International CiCLE Classic
200 riders have taken part in this year's East Midlands CiCLE Classic.
The event attracts visitors from across the country, making a significant
impact on the region’s economy, especially for small businesses in the
towns and villages on the route from Oakham to Melton.

Construction underway on ‘big five’ Olympic Park venues
Building work has started over a month early on the foundations of the
International Broadcast Centre. Construction is now underway on the ‘big
five’ venues; with the Olympic Stadium, Aquatics Centre and Olympic
Village taking shape, and the foundations of the Velodrome well underway.

Design a Great British Garden on the Olympic Park
Green fingered Brits will have the chance to help design a garden on the
London 2012 Olympic Park. Run in partnership with the Royal Horticultural
Society, ‘The RHS Olympic Park Great British Garden Competition’ is
designed to showcase one of the nation’s favourite pastimes of gardening.

Lloyds TSB to partner National School Sport Week
Youth Sport Trust has announced that London 2012 sponsor Lloyds TSB
will become the partner to National School Sport Week between now and
2012. Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week 2009 will run from 29th
June to 3rd July and aims to inspire millions of young people.
