Monthly Newsletter of the Matthew Thornton PTA Volume 23,

Tiger Tales Letter from the PTA President Dear Families: It is so hard for me to believe this is my last Tiger Tales letter as President. How bittersweet! I am proud to have served Matthew Thornton PTA for two years as president. I have made many friends along the way. A special thank you to everyone who was willing to help out any time I needed, either with a PTA event or with my kids. I appreciate each and every one of you! Monthly Newsletter of the Matthew Thornton PTA Volume 23, Issue 10: June 2009 www.mtpta.com I have had the honor of serving with very special women on the board. Sue, your friendship has always meant so much! Your five years as Treasurer is so appreciated. Michaela, seven years as secretary -- amazing! Thank you so much for your dedication and patience along the way. It has been an honor to get to know you! Deb, I wish you nothing but the best as you carry out your presidency! It has been wonderful working with you and forming a new friendship. To the parents of the fifth grade students moving on to LMS who have helped so much along the way, you will be missed! There are countless others that deserve many thanks. My family for their patience, the office ladies for their support, the custodial staff, Mrs. Mack and Mr. Hunt for their answers to endless questions and requests, Christine Stapleford for always helping out, and to the countless people who attend monthly meetings in support of MT PTA. Thank you all! The last PTA meeting for the 2008-2009 school year will be held on Wednesday, June 3 at 7 PM. We will be voting on officers. We held nominations at our meeting in May. It's never too early to begin thinking about ideas for next year. So have fun exploring your creative side this summer. Look around you !and be inspired. Think about what "Beauty Is..." means to you and !express it through art, photography, literature, film, song or dance. !We can't wait to see what you come up with for Reflections next year. We would also like to say THANK YOU to all the wonderful volunteers who gave of their time and talents to the success of this year's program. Reflections would not be possible without your help in hosting the first ever Reflections Workshop at Matthew Thornton, assisting with Judges Night, mounting, matting, baking, and executing the town-wide exhibit. !We truly appreciate all of the family, friends, parents, teachers and staff that so generously helped us with the program. You all made a difference and hope you will join us in doing so again next year. Have a wonderful summer, Anna Cook & Lisa Griffin Reflections Co-Chairs Reading Rocks! They did it! This has been our most successful year of Books and Beyond! ! The students greatly exceeded our goal of reading for one million minutes in their free time. In fact they read for more than two and a quarter million minutes! 530 students have read for at least thirty five hours and will receive gold medals at our awards ceremonies in June. In eleven classes every member will receive a gold medal. All this would not have been possible without the hard work of our volunteers and our project coordinator Patti Coburn. Also, thanks to Chunky’s Cinema, Fisher Cats, and Monarchs for their donations. Thank you all. The following are the dates and times for the Reading Rocks Award Assemblies that will take place in the gym. Families are invited to attend during their child(ren)’s designated date and time when they will be presented with certificates for their achievements.
