Center for the Church and Global AIDS Action Newsletter For more information: Center for the Church and Global AIDS Action Newsletter www.churchand globalaids.org 2008 ANNUAL REPORT— HOW YOUR GIFTS MADE A MAJOR DIFFERENCE OVER $150,000 DISTRIBUTED WORLD-WIDE AIDS EDUCATION IN SIERRA LEONE Operation Classroom builds schools that teach AIDS education and help students make good decisions about sexual health. HELPING CHILDREN AND WOMEN IN INDIA Women and children suffer the most from AIDS stigma and lack of good medical care. In India the Center supports several programs that reach the most marginalized: • Eye camps for persons whose vision is impaired by AIDS. • Nurses and doctors who provide critical care at night. • Testing for AIDS and STD’s. • Medicine to stop transmission in birth between mother/child. • Tutoring for young girls of mothers living with AIDS. • Supplemental food supplies for families lacking good nutrition. • Teaching AIDS prevention. • Helping women escape commercial sex work by teaching new skills for earning income to support their children Spring, 2009 TAX-EXEMPT GIFTS As a government recognized 501(c)(3), gifts to the Center are taxexempt. Send donations to: Center for the Church and Global AIDS 7185 South Niagara Circle Centennial, CO 80112 BURMA: MEDICINES AND THEOLOGICAL EDUCATION FOR AIDS Cyclones devastated Burma but Center contact gets urgently needed medicine to persons with AIDS. Funds also supplied to ensure free distribution of Burmese translation of “Breaking the Conspiracy of Silence: Christian Churches and the Global AIDS Crisis.” OVER 100 AIDS ORPHANS IN KENYA RECEIVE CARE Donations of $150 per year provided support to over 100 Kenya AIDS orphans through the Gift of HOPE (“Helping Orphans by Providing Essentials”). This keeps vulnerable children out of orphanages and in the community with grandparents. SUPPORT FOR TWO AIDS PROGRAMS IN COLORADO: AFRICAN-AMERICAN & LATINO Funds for “It Takes A Village” have provided temporary housing for African-American persons coming out of prison and the homeless who have AIDS. Gifts to “Sisters of Color” have helped provide capital needs as they provide AIDS education to the Hispanic community of Colorado. AIDS CONFERENCE: CLERGY & YOUTH The Center provided funds to support a training program for clergy & youth in India at Leonard Theological College.
