Purpose: The NDE has implemented an individual student and staff record system which includes automated data collection and reporting for Nebraska public school districts and nonpublic school systems. This position will work with state-wide collaborative teams to support automated data collection and reporting. This position will work with student, staff, assessment and other data in support of state and local educators. Essential Functions* Database Administration and Programming Develop conceptual and physical data models using relational and dimensional data modeling techniques Create database tables, views, functions, and stored procedures needed for reporting solutions Revise existing database structures and processes in response to changing technology and/or customer needs Plan, implement, and support data extraction, transformation, and load processes Design and deployment of OLAP reporting data models and structures Data Audit Coordinator for: Completers Dropouts Graduation Rate Customer Interface Design Design web tasks related to new and existing reporting solutions on various web sites supported by NDE, in particular those supporting student enrollment. Design, implement and support other customer interfaces and reporting tools when appropriate Participate in assessment and recommendations of data access methods to various levels of customers within NDE Customer Support Work directly with school district staff to resolve enrollment issues including: duplicate NDE student identification numbers and shared NDE student identification numbers. Identify problems, determine possible alternatives, and implement optimum solutions in anticipation of and reaction to customer feedback Assist with regular creation, review, and maintenance of quality customer documentation and training curriculum

Other Duties and Responsibilities Continuing Education Attend internal and external training sessions and conferences as needed to stay current on latest trends and technologies Regularly review and incorporate industry and technology best practices related to web development, database administration, and security Minimum Qualifications Associate’s degree in a related area such as computer science, computer engineering, or management information systems. Lesser degree may be considered with increasing years of experience as follows: Associate’s degree in an unrelated area with two years work experience in Windows applications development and building systems that contain user interface, database processing and reports; or, high school diploma with four years experience as noted above. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related area; 2 years of related work experience; working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server database and data warehouse tools; prior experience with conceptual and physical database modeling, Microsoft Visual Studio, eScholar, Crystal Reports, data warehousing or SQL Server Analysis Services. Supervisory Responsibilities – None Knowledge & Abilities Knowledge Basic math Commonly used query languages, such as SQL Database management concepts, principals and methods including database logical and physical design, normalization, storage, capacity management and backup and recovery Characteristics of data storage media IT database security principles/methods Technical documentation procedures Computer hardware and software, including applications and programming Abilities Read, listen, and understand written/oral communication from others Communicate, both orally and in writing, information/ideas to others Correctly follow a given rule or set of rules in order to arrange things or actions in a certain order Reason deductively: apply general rules to specific problems to come up with logical answers and deciding if an answer makes sense Reason inductively: combine separate pieces of information or specific answers to problems to form general rules or conclusions Logically explain why a series of seemingly unrelated events occur together Create reports and manipulate data in response to customer requirements Monitor database performance and tune database operations Use modeling tools and approaches to meet the unique requirements of the assignment

Fiscal Responsibility – None Extent of Public Contact This position requires significant contact with local school personnel to analyze and resolve data issues. Working Conditions & Environment This position requires 90% of the work to be performed at the headquarters of the Nebraska Department of Education. Some travel will be required to attend training or to work with local school personnel.
