Ashra Kwesi is a historian (griot) and lecturer on ancient African history and religion. He brings a wealth of information based on 29 years of study and tour experience in the African ile Valley. 14 of those years were spent in apprenticed to the renowned scholar and Kemetologist, Dr. Yosef ben Jochannan. Merira Kwesi is a lecturer on African fashion and culture, both ancient and modern, with 18 years experience in the African ile Valley. Brother and Sister Kwesi are the owners of Kemet u Productions, LLC and produce DVDs on the African origins of civilization, religion and culture. They also conduct exciting, annual, educational tours to Kemet (Egypt). Day 1 Day 2 Sunday, December 27, 2009 Tour members from the States depart Washington Dulles International Airport on Ethiopian Airlines. Monday, December 28, 2009 Group arrives in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, where we will be met and transferred to our hotel. An orientation session and group introductions will be held for all tour members Tuesday, December 29, 2009 After breakfast, we will take the city tour of Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. We will explore the Museum of atural History which houses the remains of Dinknesh (Lucy), dating 3.5 million years and the Trinity Cathedral, the largest in Addis Ababa. This church, built in 1941 is the final resting place of Emperor Haile Selassie and his wife, Empress Menen. We will also witness the Mercato, the largest open market in the continent. B/D. Wednesday, December 30, 2009 Bahar Dar is located on the shores of Lake Tana, Ethiopia’s largest lake and the source of the Blue ile. After a morning flight and hotel check-in, we will take a tour of this important commercial city and capital city for its region. Tour members will observe the tankwas which very closely resemble the papyrus boats carved on the temples of Egypt. We will also witness the scenic and beautiful Lake Tana. Our visit will culminate with a journey to the majestic Tis Isat waterfalls. B/D. Thursday, December 31, 2009 We will depart Bahar Dar for Gondar, the 17th century capital of Ethiopia. After checking into the hotel, our visit will take us to the unique imperial compound of medieval castles, the earliest of which belonged to King Fasiladas. Our tour will include the bathing palace of King Fasiladas, used for the annual Timket or Epiphany celebration. We will get an eye-witness account of the rich decorations and murals of Ethiopian religious icons at the the Church of Debre Berhan Selassie, built when Africans created religious figures in their own image. Our group will also visit the African Agaw, Beta Israel (Falasha) village of the people who are direct descendants of the ancient Hebrews, Solomon and Queen Makeda (Queen of Sheba). B/D. Friday, January 1, 2010 After breakfast, tour members will transfer to the airport for a flight to Lalibela. After checking into the hotel, visit a “Wonder of the World,” one of the most incredible man-made creations, the site of the eleven rock-hewn monolithic churches built by the Ethiopian King Lalibela in the late 12th or early 13th century. Each church is superbly carved with a unique architectural style. We will view 800 year old African Ethiopian Holy Books, predating the King James’ version of the Bible. B/D. Saturday, January 2, 2010 After a morning flight to Axum, we will check in at the hotel and tour Ethiopia’s most ancient city, part of one of the most glorious empires of the past. Our travel will take us to the tallest standing tekenu (obelisk) hewn from a single piece of granite. We will explore the magnificent tombs of the ancient Axumite Kings built from granite stone, plus the ancient palace of Queen Makeda (Queen of Sheba). Another stop will be the 16th century cathedral of Mary Sion (St. Mary of Zion) which houses the Ark of the Covenant, taken from Israel and brought to Ethiopia by Menelik I. The Adwa hills, where the Ethiopian army defeated the Italians and repelled their invasion in 1896 will be one of our most impressive sights. Tour participants will learn about the defeat of a European army by an African army that sent shockwaves throughout Europe and instilled a sense of pride and inspiration among Africans around the world. B/D. Sunday, January 3, 2010 A morning flight will take us from Axum back to Addis Ababa, where will finish sightseeing. Today’s journey will take us to Mount Entoto to see a breathtaking view of the Ethiopian landscape. This is the best location to see a panoramic view of Addis Ababa. Mt. Entoto attracted Emperor Menelik II to build his capital until he was convinced by his wife, Empress Taitu to move the city to the valley below, where it is now located. On the top of the hill stands St. Mary’s Church, built in 1885. We will enjoy evening folkloric entertainment and a traditional Ethiopian meal. B/D. Monday, January 4, 2010 Ashra Kwesi will present a Seminar on the Ancient History of Ethiopia. In the afternoon, tour members will have free time for shopping in Addis Ababa. B/D. Tuesday, January 5, 2010 Merira Kwesi will present a Seminar on ineteenth and Twentieth Century Ethiopia. We will transfer to the airport in the early evening for our departure on Ethiopian Airlines. Wednesday, January 6, 2010 Tour members from the States will arrive at Washington Dulles Airport.

In the event of cancellation, a fee of 25% of the tour cost will be assessed for cancellations received within 60 days of departure. All cancellations must be received in writing and are also subject to a $100.00 administrative charge. Cancellations less than 45 days of departure are assessed at 50% of the tour cost. For cancellations less than 10 days prior to departure, there is no refund. There is no refund once the tour has commenced. No exceptions are made to our cancellation policy.

Weight restrictions on some domestic flights may be restricted to 44 lbs. of total weight for the 1 bag of checked luggage and 15 lbs (7 kg) for the Ashra Kwesi Lecturing to the Kemet u Group on the Ark of the Covenant in Ethiopia carryon bag.
