5 hours professional credit documentation will be given to all participants that complete all courses This FREE conference is for all child care and early childhood education providers. This conference will provide valuable instruction tools for leading your classrooms and child care centers. Most classes will offer “make and take” activities as well as music and movement activities. Participants should come comfortably dressed. A morning snack and lunch will be provided free of charge. The registration for this conference is free, however pre-registration is required. Historically this conference is very well attended, therefore on-site registration on the day of the conference is strongly discouraged. Help! I don’t speak a 2nd language!
Presenter: Robin Moon, TN Infant-Toddler, Preschool and ECE Content Specialist, Region IV Training and Technical Assistance, STG International, Inc. (Note: This workshop is not repeated during the afternoon session) An interactive training that will briefly review current second language acquisition theories and their relevance to everyday classroom practices for children, 0-5 years. Attendees will create their own “toolkit” of ideas to take back for use in their individual classrooms.
Opportunity Knocks- Reversing Current Obesity Trends
Presenter: Phara Fondren, Grantee Performance Support Specialist, Region IV Training and Technical Assistance, STG International, Inc. (Note: This workshop is not repeated during the afternoon session) Are you concerned about the increasing number of overweight children in your program? Attend this course and you will gain knowledge of the national and local statistics depicting childhood obesity and how you can contribute to the reversal of obesity trends in your local program and community through an innovative approach called, “I am Moving, I am Learning.” This session is informative and interactive, so dress comfortably and come prepared to move and learn.
* The Impact of Homelessness on Young Children
Presenter: Patricia Magee, TN Family and Community Partnership/ Program Design Management Content Specialist, Region IV Training and Technical Assistance, STG International, Inc. This course will deepen your understanding of the unique barriers facing homeless children regarding enrollment and overall participation in preschool. Attending this course will allow you to discuss with other ECE professionals the positive impact that your program can provide for homeless children which will enrich their development and provide a strong foundation for academic achievement. Forty-percent of children living in homeless shelters are under the age of five. Learn how we can support our families and provide them with resources that will help to develop healthy and happy children.
* What’s Behind Stereotypes?
Presenter: Trina Gillam, Grantee Performance Support Specialist, Region IV Training and Technical Assistance, STG International, Inc. Our race and nationality, as well as class, ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual preference, disability, and other factors shape our own experiences, good and bad. Stereotypes are negative messages about specific groups of people. This workshop will examine the impact stereotypes have on different groups of people. Participants will be able to think and strategize about ways to challenge these ideas, systems, and structures, and how to better support families and each other.

Come and be challenged in critical thinking of our interactions with children. This course focuses on Interactions in Literacy, Language, Math, Science and Storytelling. It allows for hands-on tasks, ideas and discussions around effective interactions.
Nutrition Building Blocks
Presenter: Phara Fondren, Grantee Performance Support Specialist, Region IV Training and Technical Assistance, STG International, Inc. Nutrition is such a crucial and integral part of child and family wellness. The nutrition principles outlined in the “I am Moving, I am Learning” approach to obesity prevention are perfect for helping children, staff and families to make choices that will improve their nutrition practices. Strategies and guidance for making those improved choices within classrooms and homes will be discussed. This is a fun, informative and interactive course that utilizes music and movement activities. Participants are guaranteed to carry away something new!
