Presenters:
Don Fraser is a third grade teacher at Oak Crest Elementary School in Belle Plaine. Fraser is a regionally recognized leader in technology integration. He is a proponent of the SMART Exchange, an area where SMART Board users can share templates and teaching ideas. Scott Hare serves as director of special services for the Belle Plaine, Jordan and Montgomery-Lonsdale school districts. He serves as the treasurer for the Minnesota Administrators for Special Education and is a strong advocate of Response to Intervention (RtI). Matt Hillmann is the principal at Chatfield Elementary School in Belle Plaine. He served as director of technology for the Madelia Community School and the Belle Plaine Public Schools prior to entering the principalship. He has served as an adjunct professor at Minnesota State University, Mankato in the areas of education technology and educational administration. Peter Jacobson is an English teacher at Belle Plaine High School. Jacobson has taught a number of computer education courses at BPHS and is a currently pursuing media specialist licensure at Minnesota State University, Mankato. Lynn Mollenhauer is an experienced elementary educator currently serving as Belle Plaine's elementary computer education instructor. She has extensive experience in supporting teachers' integration of technology in their classrooms and has led local initiatives in student use of MIT's Scratch software and is currently developing a Lego robotics club. Josh Otto is the computer education teacher and technology support specialist at Belle Plaine Junior-Senior High School. He is in his first year of teaching at Tech Boot Camp. Ken Wick is Belle Plaine’s district technology coordinator. He holds a Master’s Degree in education technology from Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Sessions:
1. Blogging in Education This session will explore how to use blogs as a personal professional development tool, how to use a blog to communicate classroom activities with parents and how to use student blogs/comments as part of your curriculum. 2. Campus Teacher This session will focus on the tools available to teachers through Infinite Campus. We will focus on the grade book, "pushing" messages to students and parents, as well as using the Lesson Planner. Make sure to have your user name and password for this session! 3. Discovery Education Streaming Video Discovery Education is a popular fee-based resource that brings thousands of videos to your classroom via a web browser. 4. Google Docs Learn how to utilize Google's powerful web-based office suite. We will review the Google Docs word processor, spreadsheet and presentation tools. We will cover the powerful collaboration tools available as part of the suite as well. 5. iMovie This full day session covers the basics of video capture, editing and publication using Apple's award-winning iMovie software. This session is all day Friday (8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.). Cost is $70. 6. Inspiration Learn to use this popular concept mapping software for instructional purposes. 7. iPhoto & Picasa Digital photography capture, editing and publication using two free tool software tools (iPhoto for Mac users, Picasa for Windows users). 8. iTunes for the Classroom Learn how to integrate iTunes into your classroom by importing curriculum-connected audio and using iTunes University. 9. Microsoft PowerPoint Learn to use Microsoft's popular PowerPoint presentation tool. 10. Pearson Perspective Pearson Perspective is a free resource which allows teachers and parents to develop customized learning activities for students in reading and mathematics based on their performance on the MCA-II assessments. We will cover how to use students individual learning locator numbers and how to develop learning activities to address particular MCA-II strands. 11. rSchools Today Web Site Workshop Many school districts use rSchool Today as their web site publishing tool. This session will review the basic publishing options for teachers as well as provide time for you to experiment and improve the look of your web site. We’ll also share how to track the number of “hits” on your site. Make sure to have your user name and password for this session!

12. Scratch Scratch is a new programming language that makes it easy to create your own interactive stories, animations, games, music and art - and share your creations on the web. Scratch is designed to help young people (ages 8 and up) develop 21st century learning skills. 13. SMART Board Participants will learn to integrate a SMART Board into their teaching by using their own current curriculum as the vehicle for learning how to use the transformative technology tool. Time will be split between learning the technology and developing lessons that can be used right away when the school year starts. This session will be for four days and there will be two separate cohorts - one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Both cohorts will be following the same plan. This session is Tuesday- Friday (8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. or 12:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.). Online
registration will be listed separately from other Tech Boot Camp sessions. Please look for Tech Boot Camp - SMART Board Training listed on the events page. Click “register” and select morning or afternoon sessions. If you plan to attend other sessions throughout the week, you must register online for them separately under Tech Boot Camp. Cost: $140.
14. Using Excel to Track RtI Growth This session will focus on the basic data management and charting of students’ responses to interventions using Microsoft Excel. 15. Viewpoint Viewpoint is a data warehouse system that allows teachers access to their students’ assessment history and a variety of charts and graphs about student performance. Jan Brunell from CMERDC will lead the session. Make sure to get your user name and login from your principal prior to coming to the session! 16. Web Applications for the Classroom This session will introduce a variety of easy-to-operate web browser-based applications that can assist in developing and delivering your curriculum (and some that are just plain fun!)
