LEARN TO SWIM PROGRAM

Experienced and trained instructors will work with swimmers to maximize their Learn to Swim
experience. Detailed information regarding each level is available online at www.cityofwinona-
mn.com.

Level Babes: To help swimming readiness by leading parents and their child in water exploration
activities with the objective of having fun and becoming comfortable in and around the water. For
ages 6 months – 2 years.

Preschool Level One: Preschool Level One is a dedicated class to teach young swimmers the
basics of Level One. Small class sizes and great teachers will make this experience worthwhile
for any young swimmer. For ages 3 years – 4 years.

Level One: Introduction to Water Skills: Helping swimmers feel comfortable in the water and
enjoy the water safely. Must be age 5 before the end of the course.

Level Two: Fundamental Aquatic Skills: Swimmers will find success with fundamentals.

Level Three: Stroke Development: Builds on the skills in Level Two by providing additional
guided practice.

Level Four: Stroke Improvement: Develops confidence in the strokes learned and to improve
other aquatic skills.

Level Five: Stroke Refinement: Building on skills from Level Four through additional guided
practice.

Further options after completion of Level Five are Guard Start/Jr. WSI, Diving, and Swim Club.

Novice level skills will be reviewed and more advanced skills will be introduced. Pre-competitive
lesson objectives will be met as well as dry land training and conditioning.

9000 Introductory Diving         5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
Introduction to springboard diving with progressive skill development. For participants with little or
no previous diving experience. Participants must be comfortable in deep water and able to swim
to the edge of the pool unassisted.

                               Designed to help participants build a foundation of knowledge, attitudes and skills they will need
                               to be responsible lifeguards. Lessons are grouped into five main areas: prevention, fitness,
                               response, leadership and professionalism. Jr. WSI is designed to encourage participants to take
                               the next step in the field of aquatics; teaching swimming lessons. Participants will assist in a
                               Learn to Swim for a minimum of one session and shadow guarding with a experienced lifeguard
                               for one week!

           Lifeguarding will put training candidates in the exciting position of working as part of a team to

           300 yards and brick retrieval is included at the beginning of the course.

                      Golf is a great way to spend those summer days. Golfers will get individualized attention and

  Participants will learn the basic rules of the game, positions, and basic skills. They will be taught
  ball handling, shooting, passing, and some turning techniques. The camp consists of the rules
  and laws of the sport, yoga warm ups, fun games, soccer drills, and scrimmages. Participants will
  leave with a better knowledge of the sport and a sense of accomplishment through their efforts.

  9075 Entering Grades 2, 3 & 4: June 29 – July 9
  Participants will be focused on improving individual skills, and a better understanding of the
  tactical aspects of soccer. Participants will be taught strong turning skills, accurate passing and
  shooting, team work, how to utilize the field, and how to communicate with team members. The
  camp focuses on every skill level. Yoga warm ups, fun games, drills, scrimmages, health, and
  nutrition are included. The players will leave with a better understanding of the rules and laws of
  the game, important health values, and excitement for this growing sport.

  9076 Entering Grades 5 & 6: June 15 – June 25
  This camp will focus on soccer fundamentals, as well as a unique “leadership” role. Participants
  will improve their own skills while helping younger children learn the basic concepts of the game.
  What a great opportunity to practice, improve, and learn how to become a leader on the soccer
  field!

     Participants registered for this program will receive instruction in the fundamental tennis skills and
     tennis strategies appropriate to their stage of development. These tennis skills and strategies will
     be taught using a variety of fed ball drills, live ball drills, and various competitive games. A high
     level of sportsmanship, maximum effort, and a positive attitude will be reinforced and expected
     from all participants. Participants who vary in skill level from their age group may be moved to
     the appropriate skill level group. Instructors will work with parents and players on these transitions
     when needed.

     The recreation center is a drop in community center where you can participate in many activities.
     Special programming, pick up games, pool, table tennis, open gym, board games, and art are just
     some of the many things you will enjoy at the recreation center. Children must be at least 6 years
     of age to attend without an adult over 18 years of age.

     The park will be open Monday through Sunday. Helmets and all other safety equipment are

The wonderfully exciting Bob Welch Aquatic Center will be open June 8 from 12:00 p.m. – 7:00
