The company building the steeple originally said they would deliver it mid December, then mid January, but because of unexpected delays they tell us it will now be delivered February 5th! We do not have to have a steeple to be the church. We are the church, which is a community of genuine born again believers, growing stronger every day! But the new steeple when it comes will stand tall pointing to our heavenly home, crowned with the cross that made it all possible. "Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16 The youth are sponsoring “SOUPer Bowl for Caring Through the month of February Beginning Super Bowl Sunday, February 1 and the following Sundays in February, our youth will receive your donations to meet the needs of the hungry in Bladen County. This time of exploration is know as confirmation. To confirm what God may have already done in their heart, or to open the door for Christ to come into their heart. Youth who were baptized as children are not “full members” until they profess Christ openly with a genuine saving faith. These classes are a wonderful opportunity for mature youth to gather together and hear teaching at their level and have the Holy Spirit minister to them. Profession Sunday will be Easter Sunday during the worship service. What better Sunday could there be for one to profess “Jesus is my personal Lord and Savior? This year we have 9 registered and maybe more to come. Please be in prayer for God to do His work in each of these children/youth in the coming weeks of confirmation. & Anniversaries Terry and Sandra Cain Mark & Angela Mendell Norgie & Sherry Hester Harvey and Dorothy Barnes Dan and Wendy McQueen Paul and Ruth Harrelson Barry & Sharon White I know there are people in our congregation that I do not have their birthday and anniversary. We have 15 participants in the program and hope to increase the number in the coming months. from your finance committee On behalf of Wesley’s Chapel Finance Committee, I want to express our appreciation for the response to our request for an increase in giving the last few weeks of ‘08. Our financial year is from January to December. We ended the year with all bills paid and a small “nest egg” to begin the new year. When we take our vows of membership, we make promises about our time, efforts and support. As we begin ‘09, I hope you will continue to be faithful to all. God expects no less. Robert G. Hester Chairperson of Finance The winner of the drawing for the month of January is: Judy Woodell Robbie Norton’s mother GET YOUR WALKING SHOES ON! Wesley’s Chapel will be sponsoring a “Walking Program” starting THIS month thru the month of April. Prizes will be awarded at the end of each month. There will be two courses mapped out, one walking around the church parking lot and one walking laps inside the multi-purpose building. Instructions for the program: • • • • • On the “Honor System” You can only put your name in 1 time per day no matter how much you walk. 22 times around the inside of the MPB = 1 mile and 7 times around the paved parking lot = 1 mile You must walk at least a minimum of 1 mile or 15 minutes in order to place your name in the box. The box with instructions will be located under the breezeway by MPB. At the end of each month, there will be a random drawing for a prize involving all who participated during the month. If you are going to walk inside the MPB please contact the church office (645-4011) to make sure the building will be open. Dear Wesley’s Chapel family, • • Thank you so much for your thoughts, prayers, and food during Joyce’s illness. You will never know just how much it has meant. Joyce and I both have always known that Wesley’s Chapel was not only the place we worked, but you were part of our Christian family. Please keep me in your prayers in this time of adjustment. Herman McLeod It is recommended to walk at least 30 minutes per day. Your heart and mind will thank you! Wesley’s Chapel UM Church 2409 Peanut Plant Road Elizabethtown, NC 28337
