Sunset Classic Background and Sponsorship Summary
In
the
1980’s,
a
group
of
Bloomfield
runners
organized
a
road
race
to
benefit
the
V.E.S.T
program
for
local
children
with
special
needs.
V.E.S.T
stands
for
Vocational,
Educational
and
Special
Training
Programs
and
services
developmentally
delayed
adolescents
and
young
adults
who
reside
in
the
Essex
County
Area.
Housed
in
Bloomfield
High
School,
V.E.S.T.
works
with
youngsters
from
age
15
to
21
with
the
goal
of
providing
the
means
to
make
the
students
independent
and
employable.
The
Sunset
Classic
recently
celebrated
its
21st
running
event
and
continues
to
grow
in
popularity
as
it
annually
kicks
off
the
summer
road
racing
season
with
a
fun‐filled
night
of
competition.
It
draws
elite
and
recreational
runners
from
all
over
New
Jersey
and
other
Northeastern
states.
