What Is Cystic Fibrosis?
• • It is a life-threatening genetic disease that affects the lungs and digestive systems of tens of thousands of young people. One in 31 Americans (or more than 10 million people) is a symptomless carrier of the defective cystic fibrosis gene. Each time two carriers conceive, there is a 25 percent chance that they will have a child with cystic fibrosis.

Partner With A Results-Driven Organization… the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
Since 1955, the mission of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is to assure the development of the means to cure and control cystic fibrosis (CF) and to improve the quality of life for those with the disease. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation tirelessly pursues its mission by supporting scientific research, which is dedicated to the discovery and development of new therapies. At the same time, it funds and accredits a network of specialized treatment centers that provide state-of the-art care for people with the disease. By applying the same principles that a “for-profit company” follows—efficiency, innovation, and a results-driven approach—the Foundation is making a profound difference in the lives of those with CF
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Is Efficient
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation spends approximately 90 cents of every dollar raised on program services, which includes cystic fibrosis research and care. SmartMoney has recognized the Foundation as “a charity that won’t waste your money.”
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Is Innovative
Forbes and USA Today have recognized the Foundation for its innovative approach to curing a disease. By offering milestone-driven research awards, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation stimulates the development of new CF therapies that are having a profound impact on thousands of young lives.
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Is Results-Driven
When the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation began, few children lived to attend elementary school. Today, thanks to the research and care supported by the Foundation, the median age of survival for a person with cystic fibrosis is now almost 37 years.
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Needs Your Help!
Although the outlook for a child born with CF today has improved tremendously over the years, it is not good enough. Your partnership with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is critical to ensuring that the momentum in research continues. Working together, we can add tomorrows every day to the lives of all people with CF.
Participate in Rich Products Corporation Golden Isles Red*Trout Celebrity Classic
History of the Tournament: In 1988, with the help of friends and baseball legend Ted Williams, Gary Ellis founded the now famous Redbone Celebrity Tournament Series to help the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation fund research needed to find a cure for cystic fibrosis (CF). Over the last 20 years, the Redbone has developed into a high profile event raising over 20 million dollars in the fight against cystic fibrosis. Rich Products Corporation Golden Isles Red*Trout Celebrity Classic is a two-day catch and release tournament for redfish and trout in the shallow waters off the coast of St. Simons Island in Georgia. Teams are made up of an angler and celebrity or two anglers, guided as a team by local professional fishing captains. The event also features two social events on Thursday and Saturday evenings. Not only do the tournament participants enjoy good food, fishing and fun – they are a part of the camaraderie and competition of the special “fraternity” of anglers, guides, and celebrities who are helping to “Catch the Cure” for cystic fibrosis.
Adding Tomorrows Every Day
By making smart investments in research, partnering with sound pharmaceutical developers, and building relationships with local supporters, the CF Foundation continues “adding tomorrows every day.” Without continued financial support, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation cannot fund the research and the development pipeline slows dramatically. With a cure inevitably on the horizon, you can be a part of the groundbreaking research that makes this possible. While speaking about the fight to find a cure for CF, Jack Williams (former CEO of Royal Caribbean Cruise Line) said, “You won’t cure this disease by raising money; you’ll cure this disease by winning hearts.”
What Other Companies Are Saying. . .
We are committed to staying with the CF Foundation until a cure is found. David Cush Vice President and General Sales Manager of American Airlines Solvay Pharmaceuticals has proudly supported the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Great Strides Walk since 1989. We support this, an many other CF initiatives, because our organizations share a commitment to helping persons with cystic fibrosis improve their lives with the hope of finding a cure for this disease. Harold H. Shlevin, Ph.D. Former President and Chief Executive Officer of Solvay Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
