Modular Certificates
NUI Certificate in Culture & Society NUI Certificate in People, Place & Heritage
introduCtion In 2009-2010, two new modular part-time certificate programmes will be offered both at Kilkenny Campus and at the main campus in Maynooth. These programmes are inter-disciplinary, flexible and offered in the evening. They are linked with the part-time degrees in Local Studies and in Community Studies. This modular learning structure offers you an opportunity to select modules from the timetables offered to the BA students each semester, enabling you to learn at a pace that suits you. On accumulation of 20 credits from the Community Studies programme you will receive an NUI Certificate in Culture & Society; on accumulation of 20 credits from the Local Studies programme you will receive an NUI Certificate in People, Place and Heritage. Some modules are common to both programmes. These flexible certificates will suit those whose interests are around a particular area, but who do not wish to undertake a full degree in Community Studies or Local Studies. You may however also choose to transfer your credits into the part-time degree programmes and progress to a full BA Hons. award (180 credits). In this way these certificates, like all the NUI Certificate programmes offered by the Department of Adult and Community Education, function as a springboard for progression into further study. Short learning skills workshops will be offered in conjunction with the programmes. Those who wish to do so may also opt to take a full (creditbearing) study skills module in Autumn semester. admission requirements • Participants must be 22 years or over • Have adequate skills to participate fully in an NUI Certificate level course assessment proCedures As for individual modules.
