Changing parts of speech Some words are both nouns and adjectives. A noun can act as an adjective when it’s placed in front of a noun and modifies the noun. Examples: Noun Adjective airplane airplane ride school school mascot black black book Some words are both pronouns and adjectives. When they are used in place of a noun, they are pronouns; when they modify a noun, they are adjectives.
