Planned Care – Low Priorities and SPERA
Low Priorities Project Group:-
     – reinforce approvals process for low priority procedures
     – identify OPCS4 codes to which activity relates
     – challenge Providers carrying out activity for which approval wasn’t given – Low
       Priorities Contract Challenges (ICD10 diagnoses may indicate clinical reason,
       therefore approval not required, ie: ‘cosmetic surgery’ – for breast cancer)

•   12 main Contracts challenged, Q1 2010-11 and monthly thereafter

SPERA (Surgical Procedures Excluded and Restricted Access) Project Group:-
     – superseded Low Priorities Project Group as remit was wider than the original project
     – Identify low priority procedures for which:
         • MOBBB Operational Working Group identifies new policies to be researched by
            Supporting Public Health and implemented by the Low Priorities Panel
         • thresholds can be raised
         • existing policies can be aligned with others
     – Changes to policies will be incorporated within the Low Priorities Contract Challenges
