Dr. Katie Rodan Co-developer of Proactiv® Solution Katie P. Rodan, M.D., co-developer of Proactiv Solution, is an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor, Dermatology, Stanford University School of Medicine. She has a private practice in medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatology in Oakland, CA. Dr. Rodan's professional goal is to educate the public about skin diseases and cosmetic issues, and create products that effectively and aesthetically treat common dermatologic conditions. Dr. Rodan received her undergraduate degree in history from the University of Virginia and her medical degree from the University of Southern California, School of Medicine in Los Angeles. She completed her internship at Los Angeles County Hospital and her residency in dermatology at Stanford University School of Medicine, where she was appointed Chief Resident. A well-recognized expert in her field, Dr. Rodan has been interviewed and quoted in many national magazines, including Cosmopolitan, Glamour, Self, McCall's, Allure, Teen, Cosmogirl, Oprah, Redbook, Mirabella, Elle and Reader's Digest. She was featured in First Magazine for Women, "Secrets of the Beauty Docs" (July 1996) and in Harper's Bazaar, "Five Hot Derms" (April 1998). She is a guest medical correspondent for KRON-TV News, the NBC affiliate in San Francisco, and has appeared on national television shows, such as The Montel Williams Show, The View, and Later Today. Her professional accomplishments have been profiled through articles in People, Harper’s Baazar, More, and the Oakland Magazine 2008 issue where she was the cover story for the “Best Doctors” and has also been included in Best Doctors in America. In addition, Dr. Rodan along with Dr. Kathy Fields, received the coveted Cosmetic Executive Women’s Award in 2003 for “changing the direction of the industry” with their creation of Proactiv® Solution. Dr. Rodan co-authored the definitive book on acne “Unblemished,” with Dr. Fields, where they refute some of the most common misunderstandings about acne and present a groundbreaking guide to using over-the-counter medications to banish breakouts forever. She has also authored and co-authored articles about dermatologic conditions and treatments for the conditions in journals such as the Archives in Dermatology, the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, and The Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology. In addition, Dr. Rodan shares her knowledge and experience as both a dermatologist and an entrepreneur with the public and her medical colleagues through speaking engagements at national trade meetings, universities, corporations, and women’s organizations. She is a member of numerous professional societies, including the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, the California Medical Association, and the Scientific Advisory Board for Nanopacific Holdings. In addition, she is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and a member of the Board of Directors for the American Society of Cosmetic Dermatology and Aesthetic Surgery. She also holds a hospital appointment at Alta Bates Hospital in Berkeley, CA.
