Vicinage 13 Superior Court Seeks Municipal Mediation Volunteers
in Somerset, Hunterdon, and Warren Counties
The Superior Court of New Jersey, Vicinage 13 in Somerset, Hunterdon, and Warren counties,
seeks volunteers to serve as municipal court mediators. Volunteers are needed for mediation
sessions that will be held on weekdays and/or evenings.

Volunteer mediators are appointed by the assignment judge to hear and mediate citizen
complaints involving minor disputes.

Municipal court mediation is a no-cost way to end disputes among parties rather than leaving the
decision-making to others. The mediators encourage discussions between the parties to help
them reach an agreement they can both accept. The mediators do not favor one party over
another nor decide the outcome of the cases. The parties work together to solve the problems
between them.

While volunteers are sought in all three counties, they are particularly needed in Hunterdon and
Warren counties. Training is required and will be provided to those accepted into the program.

For more information about the program and application process in Somerset, Hunterdon and
Warren counties, contact Pierrette Torres at 908-231-7508, Pierrette.Torres@Judiciary.state.nj.us
or at Municipal Court Division, 40 N. Bridge St., Somerville, 08876.

All applicants are subject to a criminal background check, including fingerprinting, and a
                      mandatory 18-hour mediation training session.

                                                ###
