SUMMER HARVEST - RASPBERRIES AND BLUEBELLS
Tuesday 13th March - 9.00am to 3.30pm
Stumpwork is an exquisite and fascinating embroidery style that has its origins in the
17th century. Also known as raised embroidery, stumpwork is unique in that elements of
the embroidery are worked separately, then attached to the base fabric. Combined with
padding techniques, this gives the work a three-dimensional quality. This study of fruit-
ing raspberries and bluebells uses some of the best and most versatile techniques,
including wired, detached elements, slips, satin stitch padding and ghiordes knots. The
results are stunning but not difficult to achieve.
Student requirements: Embroidery scissors, sharp lead pencil, 10cm (4") embroidery
hoop, 15cm (6") embroidery hoop.
Kit cost: MYR$95

                                               BRODERIE ANGLAISE SACHET
                                               Wednesday 14th March - 9.00am to 3.30pm
Broderie anglaise, or English embroidery is characterised by the prolific use of eyelets in
varying shapes and sizes and beautifully shaped blanket stitch edges. Both techniques
require care and practice to perfect and this class is a wonderful starting point. Eyelets
are created by either manipulating or cutting the fabric threads and in this class we will
explore the variations, as well as work single and multiple eyelets in a design. Plain and
padded blanket stitch will also be examined, as will other stitches used in this wonder-
                                               ful style of embroidery.
Student requirements: Embroidery scissors, sharp lead pencil, dressmaker's awl.
                                               Kit cost: MYR$60
