     TYPES OF POLLUTION
       POLLUTION

ANY UNDESIRABLE CHANGE IN ENVIRONMENT IS TERMED AS
POLLUTION

Types of pollution are-
1. Air Pollution.
2. Light pollution
3. Noise Pollution.
4. Water Pollution.
5. Land Pollution
   AIR POLLUTION
The atmosphere is a complex dynamic natural gaseous system that is
essential to support life on planet Earth.

Air pollution is the introduction of chemicals, particulate matter, or
biological materials that cause harm or discomfort to humans or other
living organisms, or damages the natural environment.
Source of air pollution
1. Natural sources.

2. Anthropogenic sources.
Effects of air pollution

1. Health effects

2. The Great Smog of 1952

3. Bhopal gas tragedy in 1984.

Light pollution

Light pollution, also known as photo pollution or luminous pollution, is
excessive or obtrusive artificial light.
sources of light pollution

1. Light trespass
2. Over illumination
3. Sky glow

                             3
Effects or consequences

1. Energy waste

2. Effects on animal and human health

3. Effect on astronomy

4. Landing of flight
Control measure

1. LED droplight could reduce unnecessary light pollution in building
     interiors

2. Improving lighting fixtures
  Noise pollution

Noise pollution is nothing but human, animal or machine-created sound that
disrupts the activity or balance of human or animal life.
Source of noise pollution

1. Construction

2. Transportation systems
         a. motor vehicle noise,
         b. aircraft noise and
         c. rail noise
3.Loud speaker
Effect of noise pollution

1. Health effects.

2. Environmental effects.
Control of noise pollution

1.Sound tube

2. Jet engines

3. Industrial equipment

 Water pollution

Water pollution is the contamination of pollutants in water bodies (e.g.
lakes, rivers, oceans, groundwater).
    Causes of water pollution

    1. Pathogens

    2. Chemical and other contaminants

    3. Thermal pollution

                                           2
3 1
effects of water pollution

1. Waterborne diseases

2. Affects marine ecosystem
    Control measure of water pollution
    1. Domestic sewage 1
    2. Industrial wastewater

2
Soil pollution

Soil pollution is caused by the presence of xenobiotic (human-made)
chemicals or other alteration in the natural soil environment.
Causes of soil pollution

1.Solid waste disposal

2.Municipal waste

3.Agricultural pollution
Effect of soil pollution

1. Health effects

2. Ecosystem effects
Control measure of soil pollution

Microbes can be used in soil cleanup and it is called as
Bioremediation. It includes

        1. Land farming,

        2. Bioaugmentating,

        3. Phytoremediation.
Pollution Prevention

By 3r principle

  reduce
  reuse
  recycle
