Music Writing Assignment: November 3, 2008 It is important to understand how to evaluate music by listening to it, and also evaluate music by writing about it. For Wednesday, please write a one-two page double spaced paper about one of the following topics: A. Research the history of the piece “The Nutcracker”. Who was it written for, when was it composed and what is behind the story and ballet? B. Listen to the Nutcracker Suite by downloading it from itunes or finding a friend with the CD. Write a short paragraph describing what you hear in each movement. Use musical terms to describe the music. This paper should be no longer than 500 words and should be typed. Be concise and use correct grammar and spelling. If you are using a source other than your own, make sure that you cite the source in a footnote or bibliography. Any questions?
