					                               YSGOL Y DDWYLAN
ADRODDIAD GAN Y LLYWODRAETHWYR I’R RHIENI NEU GWARCHODWYR 2009-2010

Annwyl Rieni/Gwarchodwyr,
Fel Cadeirydd Corff Llywodraethol Ysgol y Ddwylan, mae'n bleser gennyf unwaith eto
gynnig gair yn Adroddiad Blynyddol yr ysgol. Fel arfer, bu'r flwyddyn 2009-10 yn flwyddyn
ddigon prysur i ni fel llywodraethwyr. Gwelwyd rhai newidiadau i aelodaeth y corff gyda
thymor y Cynghorydd Wyn Thomas a Mrs Mari Wyn yn dod i ben a phenodi'r Cynghorydd
Derek Richards a Mr Huw T. Evans yn eu lle. Rhaid diolch o galon i Wyn a Mari am eu
hymroddiad a'u cefnogaeth arbennig i'r ysgol dros y blynyddoedd lawer y bu'r ddau'n
gwasanaethu'r corff a rhoi croeso mawr i Derek a Huw ar yr un pryd.
Testun tristwch mawr i’r ardal gyfan oedd clywed am farwolaeth sydyn y Cynghorydd
Haydn Jones dros wyliau’r haf. Bu Haydn yn aelod gweithgar a chefnogol iawn o’r corff
llywodraethol ers rhai blynyddoedd ac roedd cael ei gwmni a’i gyngor yn ein cyfarfodydd yn
werthfawr iawn i ni i gyd. Roedd yn bwyllgorwr heb ei ail a’r cyswllt rhwng y Cyngor Sir a’r
ysgol gymaint yn gryfach ac yn fwy ffrwythlon oherwydd ei ymroddiad ef. Mawr fydd ein
colled ar ei ôl. Danfonwn ein cofion cynhesaf at ei deulu ar yr adeg anodd hon.
Gwelwyd newidiadau ymysg staff yr ysgol yn ystod y flwyddyn hefyd, gyda phenodi
ambell wyneb newydd a ffarwelio ag eraill. Mae cryn dipyn o fynd a dod wedi bod ymysg y
cymorthyddion gofal a chynorthwywyr dosbarth eleni. Ddechrau Medi, penodwyd Mrs Delyth
Davies, Miss Rebecca Mills a Miss Sioned Jones i helpu gyda gwahanol ddosbarthiadau, a
gwelwyd Mrs Louise Isaac, Miss Lowri Evans a Mrs Lisa MacDonald yn ymuno â'r staff yn
ystod y flwyddyn. Daeth cyfle hefyd i groesawu Ms Iona Jones a Ms Jane Phillips yn ôl i'r
ysgol wedi cyfnod o salwch. Mae Jane bellach wedi gadael unwaith eto i weithio gyda Weight
Watchers. Ffarweliwyd hefyd â dwy aelod o’r staff cynorthwyol oedd wedi bod yn yr ysgol ers
blynyddoedd lawer, sef Mrs Mary Williams, sydd wedi ymddeol a Mrs Diana Bowen, sydd
wedi symud i Ysgol Penboyr. Dymunwn y gorau i bob un yn y dyfodol.
Danfonwn ein dymuniadau gorau at Ms Pippa Mahoney a benodwyd fel athrawes i
Ddosbarth 1A a Blagur ar ddechrau'r flwyddyn, ond a gafodd ei tharo'n ddifrifol sâl cyn medru
ymgymryd a'i swydd yn llawn. Rydym fel corff yn hynod falch o glywed ei bod ar
wellhad. Diolchwn yn fawr iawn i Mrs Gwenda Smith am fod mor barod i gamu i'r bwlch.
Gyda thristwch hefyd y byddwn yn ffarwelio a dau arall o wynebau mwyaf cyfarwydd
yr ysgol sef ein pennaeth, Mr Clive Phillips, a Mrs Beryl Thomas, sydd wedi bod yn athrawes
yma ers 16 o flynyddoedd. Diolchwn yn fawr i Mr Phillips am ei arweiniad cadarn yn ystod ei
chwe mlynedd wrth y llyw a dymunwn y gorau iddo yn ei swydd newydd fel Arolygydd gydag
Estyn ac i Mrs Thomas yn ei hymddeoliad. Yn sicr, fe fydd yna fwlch mawr ar ôl y ddau.
Yn y cyfamser, daeth cyfle i benodi pennaeth newydd i'r ysgol, sef Mrs Helen Davies,
yn wreiddiol o ardal y Bala, ond bellach yn byw yn ardal Bronwydd, ger Caerfyrddin. Ar hyn o
bryd yn bennaeth ar Ysgol Cae'r Felin, Pencader. Fe fydd Mrs Davies yn cydio yn yr
awennau yma’n yr ysgol ym mis Hydref 2010. Rydym yn siŵr y bydd hi'n gaffaeliad mawr i
Ysgol y Ddwylan. Yn y cyfamser, fe fydd Mrs Catherine Davies yn arwain yr ysgol yn ystod
hanner tymor cyntaf y flwyddyn ysgol newydd.
Fel corff llywodraethol, hoffwn ddiolch o waelod calon i holl staff yr ysgol am eu
gwaith caled a'u cefnogaeth yn ystod y flwyddyn. Rydym yn ymfalchio'n fawr yn llwyddiant yr
ysgol wrth ennill nifer helaeth o farciau safon o bwys yn ystod y flwyddyn, yn ogystal a'r
gwaith caled a wnaed wrth sefydlu gwefan yr ysgol. Diolch o galon hefyd i'r Gymdeithas
Rhieni ac Athrawon ac i chi fel rhieni am eich cefnogaeth gyson, er mwyn sicrhau fod yr ysgol
yn mynd o nerth i nerth.

Yr eiddoch yn gywir,

Dr Sioned Thomas Cadeirydd y Llywodraethwyr
REPORT BY THE GOVERNING BODY TO PARENTS AND GUARDIANS 2009-2010

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As Chair of the Governing Body of Ysgol y Ddwylan, it is my pleasure to write a few words in
the school's Annual Report. Once again, 2009-10 has been another extremely busy year for
us as governors. There have been several changes to the governing body with Councillor
Wyn Thomas and Mrs Mari Wyn coming to the end of their terms and Councillor Derek
Richards and Mr Huw T. Evans being appointed in their place. We extend our sincere
gratitude to Wyn and Mari for their support and dedication to the school over many years and
also extend a warm welcome to Derek and Huw.

The whole area was saddened to learn of the death of Councillor Haydn Jones over the
summer. Haydn was an extremely hard working and loyal member of the Governing Body for
many years and his company in our meetings and his wealth of experience was very much
appreciated by us all. He was a first rate committee man, and consolidated and developed
the relationship between the County Council and the school through his enduring dedication.
He will be sorely missed. Our thoughts are with his family at this very difficult time.

There have been many changes amongst the staff at the school this year too, with many
new faces being appointed and others deciding to leave. The support staff and classroom
assistants have seen quite a few changes. At the beginning of September, Mrs Delyth
Davies, Miss Rebecca Mills and Miss Sioned Jones were appointed to various posts in
different classes, whilst Mrs Louise Isaac, Miss Lowri Evans and Mrs Lisa MacDonald joined
the staff during the course of the year. We were able to welcome Ms Iona Jones and Ms
Jane Phillips back to school after illness. Jane has since left the school to take up a post with
Weight Watchers. We also came to the end of an era with the retirement of Mrs Mary
Williams who had been a lunch time supervisor at the school for many years, and the leaving
of Mrs Diana Bowen, who has since taken up a position at Penboyr school. We would like to
wish them all the very best in the future.

Our sincere best wishes are sent to Ms Pippa Mahoney who was appointed as class
teacher for 1A and Blagur at the beginning of the year but who was unable to fulfill her post as
a result of severe illness. We are delighted to hear that she is now on the road to recovery.
We would also like to thank Mrs Gwenda Smith for being so willing to step into the breach for
the remaining two terms of the school year.

We are extremely sorry to be saying farewell to two of the most familiar faces at Ysgol y
Ddwylan, namely, our headmaster, Mr Clive Phillips and Mrs Beryl Thomas, who has been a
teacher at the school for 16 years. We wish to thank Mr Phillips most sincerely for his firm
leadership over the past six years and wish him well in his new post as an Inspector with
Estyn, and also to Mrs Thomas in her retirement. There is sure to be a big hole left after
them.

In the meantime, Mrs Helen Davies, originally from Bala, but now living in Bronwydd near
Carmarthen, has been appointed as our new head. Currently, she is the head of Ysgol Cae'r
Felin, Pencader, and will take up her new post here in October 2010. She is sure to be a
huge asset to Ysgol y Ddwylan. During the first few weeks of the new school year, Mrs
Catherine Davies will be holding the fort until her arrival.

As a governing body, we wish to thank all the staff at the school for their hard work and
support during the year. We are delighted that the school is still going from strength to
strength, gaining many more accreditations, as well as developing a school website. Our
appreciation also goes out to the Parent Teachers' Association and to you as parents for
your continued support.

Yours sincerely,
Dr Sioned Thomas Chair of Governors

gyflym ac yn effeithiol iawn

Termly fire drills are held and the pupils and staff respond quickly and effectively.
Achosion Gwrth hiliaeth neu fwlio/ Racial incidents or bullying

Cymer yr ysgol unrhyw achos o hiliaeth a bwlio o ddifri. Yn ystod y flwyddyn,
cofnodwyd dau achos o hiliaeth a deliwyd â’r achosion yn unol â pholisi’r ysgol.
Buom yn monitro’r sefyllfa yn agos a ni chafwyd unrhyw ail-adrodd o’r achosion ac
mae’r disgyblion yn ymwybodol o ddisgwyliadau’r ysgol.

The school takes any instances of bullying or racism very seriously. During the last
year, two incidents of a racist nature were recorded and dealt with in accordance with
the school’s policy. Monitoring of the incidents has confirmed that they have not been
repeated and the pupils responsible are aware of the school’s expectations.

Cysylltiadau gyda’r Gymuned a’r Heddlu/ Links with the community and the
police

Mae’r ysgol yn chwarae rôl bwysig yn ei chymuned ac ‘rydym yn annog ein
disgyblion i gymryd rhan mewn amryw o weithgareddau o gwmpas yr ardal. Eleni
bu’r disgyblion yn ymweld â chartrefi Glyn Nest a Maes Llewelyn, yn cymryd rhan
yng nghystadleuaeth llunio coeden nadolig yn yr eglwys yn ogystal â chymryd rhan
mewn nifer o weithgareddau chwaraeon a diwylliannol.
Mae’r heddlu yn ymweld â’r ysgol yn rheolaidd i rannu gwybodaeth am ddiogelwch a
chodi ymwybyddiaeth am beryglon cyffuriau ac alcohol.

The school has maintained strong links with the community during the year. Pupils
have visited the care homes at Glyn Nest and Maes Llewelyn, contributed to the
church’s Christmas tree festival, taken part in numerous sporting and cultural events
in the town.
The police visit the school regularly to share information about safety issues and to
teach the children about the dangers of alcohol and drugs.

Gwasanaethau eglwysig/ Church services

Cynhaliwyd ein Oedfa Diolchgarwch yn yr Eglwys yn ystod tymor yr Hydref.
Cafwyd anerchiad briodol iawn gan y Parchedig Carys Ann.

The school’s Thanksgiving Service was held in the Church and the Reverend Carys
Ann was invited to address the pupils.

Cerddoriaeth/Music

Yn ogystal â’r ddarpariaeth arferol o brofiadau cerddorol bu’r ysgol yn rhan o brosiect
cyffrous iawn yn ystod tymor yr Hydref. Bu aelodau o Gôr yr ysgol sydd ym
mlynyddoedd 5 a 6 yn perfformio gyda Chorws Cenedlaethol Cymreig y BBC yng
Nghyngerdd Carolau Blynyddol BBC Cymru Wales ar ddydd Sadwrn Rhagfyr 12fed
2009 yn Neuadd Dewi Sant, Caerdydd.
Bu’r plant yn rhan o gôr unedig o tua 250 o gantorion, a bu aelodau o Gorws
Cenedlaethol Cymreig y BBC yn ymweld â’r ysgol i gynnal ymarferion. Roedd y
gyngerdd yn brofiad gwych i’r plant a’r rhieni.

Eleni buom yn rhan o gynllun peilot gyda gweddill ysgolion yr ardal yn treialu
deunyddiau ar gyfer gwella safon ac ansawdd canu yn yr ysgol. Mae’r cynllun, sy’n
cael ei noddi gan y Cynulliad, yn darparu’r holl ddeunyddiau ac yn hygyrch iawn i’r
holl athrawon gan nad oes angen unrhyw arbenigedd cerddorol i addysgu’r gwaith.

As well as the usual opportunities to experience and enjoy music, year 5 and 6 pupils
were given the opportunity of performing with the BBC National Chorus in their
annual Christmas Carol concert at the St David’s Hall in Cardiff on the 12th of
December. The pupils were part of a choir of over 250 children and the whole event
was a fantastic experience for all involved.
This year, we have been part of a pilot with other schools in the area trialling a new
programme designed to improve the quality of the pupils’ singing. The programme
has been sponsored by the Welsh Assembly.

The pupils have taken part in numerous competitions during the year including – the
swimming gala, football, netball and rugby tournaments, cross country races at a
County level and under the auspices of the Urdd.
Year 3 pupils also took part in golf coaching sessions at Carmarthen golf club. Also
all pupils took part in a specific programme aimed at improving their personal fitness.

Addysg Arbennig/Special Educational Needs

Mrs Lesley Reed sy’n gyfrifol am gydlynu a threfnu’r ddarpariaeth ar gyfer
disgyblion sydd ag anghenion addysgol ychwanegol. Mae 55 o ddisgyblion ar y
gofrestr anghenion addysgol arbennig. Yn ogystal, targedwyd disgyblion sydd angen
ychydig o gymorth ychwanegol ar elfennau penodol er mwyn sicrhau ymyrraeth
gynnar gan osgoi unrhyw lithriad o ran safonau, hyder a hunan-werth y plant. O’u
gymharu ag ysgolion tebyg o ran cefndir a natur, mae canran y disgyblion sydd ag
anghenion addysgol ychwanegol yn uwch, ac weithiau yn uwch o lawer yn yr ysgol
hon.

Mrs Lesley Reed is responsible for coordinating the provision for pupils who need
additional support. At the end of the summer term, 55 pupils were included on the
school’s special needs register. In addition, we provide early additional support to
many pupils to ensure that they do not fall behind their expected levels and to boost
their self-esteem and confidence. The school deploys a number of different
programmes to provide the correct support which meets the pupils’ particular needs
and these are usually carried out by the learning support assistants.

Disgyblion sydd ag anableddau/Pupils with disabilities

Addysgir disgyblion sydd ag anableddau ym mhrif ffrwd yr ysgol gyda chymorth
gweinyddesau lle mae hynny’n briodol. Mae adeiladau’r ysgol ar un lefel ac yn
hygyrch ar gyfer disgyblion sydd ag anableddau. Gwahoddir rhieni i gyfrannu at
adolygu’r Polisi Anableddau a’r Cynllun Hygyrchedd os oes gennych ddiddordeb
penodol yn y maes.

The special needs provision within the school includes pupils with disabilities who are
integrated into mainstream classes with the appropriate support according to their
disabilities. The school building is able to accommodate pupils with most disabilities
and all reasonable adjustments are made to accommodate disabled pupils and visitors.
Parents are warmly invited to help the school consider it’s Disability Access Plan if
they have a personal requirement or interest in this area.

Gweithdrefniadau gwneud cwynion/Complaints Procedures

Mae gwybodaeth ynglŷn â’r modd mae cyflwyno cwynion parthed y cwricwlwm neu
faterion eraill yn ymwneud â’r ysgol ar gael i rieni neu warchodwyr. Dylid cyfeirio
unrhyw gwynion at y pennaeth ac yna dilyn y drefn ac amlinellir yn y polisi.

Information on the arrangements for the consideration of complaints about the school
curriculum and related matters are available at the school. All complaints should be

Cyngor Ysgol/School Council

Cefnogwyd elusen BOBATH (Canolfan Therapi Plant Cymru sy’n darparu
gwasanaeth ar gyfer plant sydd â pharlys yr ymennydd) gan yr ysgol yn ystod y
flwyddyn. Bu’r Cyngor Ysgol yn pobi ac yn gwerthu pice ar y maen ar Ddydd Gŵyl
Dewi a chynhaliwyd arwerthiant o lyfrau ail law ar ‘Ddiwrnod y Llyfr’. Cyflwynwyd
swm o £1000 i’r elusen i Gail Griffiths o Bobath mewn gwasanaeth arbennig yn yr
ysgol ar ddydd Mawrth, Mehefin 15fed.

The School Council arranged activities such as selling Welsh Cakes on St David’s
day to raise money for BOBATH. A second hand book sale was held on World Book
Day in the Spring Term. A sum of a £1000 was presented to Gail Griffiths from
BOBATH in a special assembly on June the 15th.

Cyngor Eco/ Eco Council

Bu’r Cyngor Eco yn brysur gyda nifer o fentrau yn ystod y flwyddyn. Yn ystod tymor
yr haf, bu’r Cyngor Eco yn cyd-weithio gyda rhai o ddisgyblion blwyddyn 12 o Ysgol
Emlyn yn adeiladu tŷ gwydr allan o poteli plastig. Casglwyd cannoedd o boteli gan
ddisgyblion yr ysgol ac erbyn hyn mae’r tŷ gwydr yn barod ar gyfer plannu cynnyrch
– mwy na thebyg yn gynnar yn nhymor yr hydref.

The Eco Council was again at the forefront of many activities during the year. During
the summer term, the council worked in partnership with year 12 pupils from Ysgol
Emlyn to build a plastic bottle glasshouse.

Partneriaeth gyda Choleg Prifysgol y Drindod

fentora hyfforddai sy’n dod i’r ysgol.

The school has been working in partnership with Trinity College for many years and
have received trainee teachers on a regular basis. Presently two teachers have been
trained as mentors for the trainees at the school.

Pwyllgor Rieni/PTA

Rydym yn ffodus o gefnogaeth ffyddlon y Pwyllgor Rhieni sy’n cynnal nifer o
weithgareddau codi arian yn ystod y flwyddyn, gan gynnwys Noson Caws a Gwin,
discos i’r plant, sioeau ffasiynau ac ati . Yn ogystal mae rhieni yn cyfrannu arian i’r
ysgol trwy wahanol weithgareddau – Cyflwynywd siec o £546.52 gan Kelly a Gareth
Williams yn dilyn ras rafftio a derbyniwyd siec o £157 oddi wrth Jennifer Jones yn
dilyn taith gerdded. Cynhaliwyd Sioe Ffasiynau llwyddiannus dan adain siop ‘Camau
Bach’ yn ystod y tymor a chodwyd swm o dros £500.

We are fortunate that a hard working group of parents are willing to give of their time
and energy to support the school. Many fund raising events were held during the year,
including a Cheese and Wine Evening, dicos for the children and a Fashion Show and
so on. In addition parents make contributions to the school through various fund
raising activities – Kelly and Gareth Williams contributed a sum of £546.52 following
a raft race, Jennifer Jones presented a sum of £157 following a sponsored walk and
‘Camau Bach’ clothes shop raised over £500 following a Fashion Show.
