Mike Gardner, Marie’s manager, said that Marie’s daughter found her dead in her home last Sunday, and that she suffered a seizure last month.The 54 year old singer is known for being one of the first White artists to sign and sing at Motown Records back in 1979. Marie is also known for songs like Lover Girl, Casanova Brown and duets with Rick James. The exact cause of death has not yet been ruled. African American Celebrities: Gone But Not Forgotten in 2010 James Moody Age: 85 Jazz saxophonist James Moody, who recorded more than 50 solo albums as well as songs with the likes of Dizzy Gillespie, Quincy Jones, Lionel Hampton and B.B. King, has died. He was 85. Moody’s wife, Linda McGowan Moody, says he died 12/09/2010 at San Diego Hospice after battling pancreatic cancer for 10 months. Shirley Verrett Age: 79 Shirley Verrett, an acclaimed American mezzo-soprano and soprano praised for her blazing intensity during a career that spanned four decades, died 11/5/10 in Ann Arbor, Mich. She was 79. Verrett, one of the top opera singers of the 1970s and 1980s, had been suffering from heart trouble.
