                                                                                The top housing on this particular Typ
                                                                                160 is made of a single metal piece.
                                                                                Early models of the Typ 160 Retinette
                                                                                II have a two-piece top housing. The
                                                                                HSRC database shows that the Typ 160
                                                                                has a two-part top housing from number
                                                                                307150K. to 345980K. Typ 160
                                                                                cameras from 346515K. to 396194K.
                                                                                have a single piece top housing. This
                                                                                switch from a two piece top housing to
                                                                                a single piece top housing was also
                                                                                found with the Typ 148 Retina I and
                                                                                Typ 149 Retina I which were
                                                                                manufactured at the same time as the
                                                                                Typ 160 Retinette II.

        This back view demonstrates the word
        "Retinette" embossed in the back door
        artificial leatherette covering. The
        database information on page 3 shows
        two Typ 160 models with "Retina"
        embossed on the back door (No.
        327625K. and No. 342341K.). Both of
        these cameras have been examined by
        the author and both show evidence that
        the back door leather from a Retina I had
        been glued onto a Typ 160 Retinette II
        door. The front covering of both cameras
        was still the original artificial leatherette.

                                                                                basic body style as a late production

                                                                                The Typ 167 is distinguished by:
                                                                                a. Chrome finish to top housing and
                                                                                top deck under rewind knob.
                                                                                b. Artificial leatherette or real leather
                                                                                covering the body.
                                                                                c. "Retina" not "Retinette" embossed
                                                                                on back door leather.
                                                                                d. Black lacquer finish about the
                                                                                rectangular back door latch.

        The back door covering
        demonstrates the embossed Retina
        logo. Like the Typ 160 Retinette II,
        the Typ 167 lacks a Depth of Field
        Scale on the camera bottom.

        Wind and rewind knobs have the
        same aluminum finish as the Typ
        160 Retinette II.

                     Production of the Typ 167 Retina I occurs near the end of war time Retina camera
                     production in 1941. The German government ordered a cessation of camera
                     production in the summer of 1941. The last identified serial number from war time
                     Retina production is 412113K. which is found on a Typ 150 Retina IIa camera.
