Graphs in Junior Science
The use of graphs is one of the clearest differences between junior and primary

The student will develop skills associated with

    numeracy, and the manipulation and interpretation of data in a variety of forms,
     including the use of symbols, charts and graphs
    graphing or tabulating (using recorded or supplied data)

Practical activities in science

The revised syllabus emphasises a practical experience of science for the student. The
syllabus presentation does not imply any particular method or sequence of teaching
science, although it should follow a logical and coherent approach. In the teaching
and learning, appropriate links should be made between the three syllabus sections. A
wide range of teaching approaches may be used, including the use of datalogging
where appropriate.

Development of skills

      For students, science may be their first experience of making and interpreting
       graphs, certainly of line graphs
      Many graphs are in topics suitable for first year

Graphs can be produced using many different methods and approaches.
      Simple manual plotting using specific graph paper – easily produced as part of
       resource materials.
      Manual plotting on normal graph paper.
      Use of calculator to make graph and sketch or transfer to Graphical
      Use of Graphical Analysis to make graph and print.
      Use of locked Excel sheets to make graph and print.
      Use of any electronic method to plot the line and assist interpretation of the
