Weatherization funding has remained fairly consistent over the past two years. Increased
funding has occurred since 2002 and is the result of local Kent County Senior Millage Funds and
the Michigan Public Service Commission “Deregulation” funds.

2005 saw a substantial increase in furnace replacement. Many of the furnace
replacements were referrals from agencies. All furnaces were replaced because they were safety
hazard. All of the furnaces were replaced using LIHEAP or MPSC funds.

         Unmet Needs

The requests for Weatherization have increased substantially in 2005. At the end of 2005
there were approximately 60 homes on the waiting list. DHS has been referring any client
that received utility assistance to Wx.
Funding for DOE has remained about the same as 2004. There was an increase in
LIHEAP funds in 2005. LIHEAP also changed its funding year to coincide with DOE’s
funding year. Funding from Senior Millage remains the same.
The percent of Household served at or below 125% did not show any significant change
         in 2005 from 2004.
17% of the homes weatherized received new furnaces. All these furnaces were
         considered unsafe and shutdown.
