                                      GRADE-LEVEL ASSESSMENT

Use of a dictionary, thesaurus, grammar handbook, or bilingual dictionary is permissible during the
writing prompt in Grade 3 and Grade 7. Use of these tools during session 2 of grades 3 and 7 is not
considered an accommodation, and therefore no accommodation needs to be marked. This means that
use of these tools does not invalidate Communication Arts.

If an English Language Learner student uses a bilingual dictionary as an accommodation for any session
of Communication Arts other than the writing prompt, the district will mark the accommodations
bubble 43. This will make the assessment invalid, resulting in an LOSS.

The accommodation bubbles do not distinguish between sessions. Therefore, if a district marks use of
bilingual dictionary for any portion of the Communication Arts assessment, the assessment will be
invalidated. Use of these tools during session 2 of grades 3 and 7 is not considered an accommodation,
and therefore no accommodation needs to be marked. Please make sure that districts understand this
difference.
