Executive Director-New York, NY

The New York State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers ("NYSACDL") is seeking an Executive
Director. The NYSACDL is a statewide membership bar association of approximately 800 members. We
are an affiliate of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. The Executive Director's
responsibilities will include forwarding the mission of the Association through implementing Board
policies and recommending actions the Association can take to forward its agenda. Day-to-day operation of
the Association by the Executive Director will include

Coordinating and assisting in planning CLE programs
Interacting with members and recruiting new members
Public relations work, including drafting written positions for approval by the Board or President and
developing strategies to educate the public regarding pressing issues in the criminal justice system
Organizing the records of the Association
Organizing and updating the website
Obtaining grants
Coordinating weekend events, including a possible Trial College
Working with the Legislative Committee and lobbyist to assist in commenting on legislation
Maintaining relationship with NACDL
Supervising administrative staff

Applicants must have knowledge and experience dealing with criminal justice issues from a defense-
oriented perspective. It is not required that applicants have a law degree, but we encourage attorneys to
apply.

The position may be full-time or part-time depending upon the applicant. We encourage applicants from
anywhere in New York State.

Program Associate-New York, NY

Lawyers Alliance for New York is the leading provider of business and transactional legal services for
nonprofit organizations that are improving the quality of life in New York City neighborhoods. We help
nonprofits to develop affordable housing, stimulate economic development, and operate vital programs for
youth, the elderly, recent immigrants, and other low-income New Yorkers. Lawyers Alliance works with
more than 1,000 volunteer attorneys from more than 100 New York law firms and corporations to provide
these services.

The Program Associate for Pro Bono will work closely with the Pro Bono Manager and Deputy Executive
Director, and will play an important role in the placement and success of close to 800 pro bono matters per
year.

Major responsibilities of the position include:

-- Administering pro bono placement process, including corresponding with and helping to identify
appropriate attorney volunteers;

-- Assisting in development and implementation of annual pro bono outreach plan and strategies to expand

network of pro bono volunteers;

-- Promoting and organizing volunteer website activity on www.lawyersalliance.org and community
development section of www.probono.net;

-- Maintaining substantive case information in database, monitoring case activity, and preparing statistical
reports;

-- Coordinating case closings, including closing letters and questionnaires;

-- Conducting factual research and preparing reports related to pro bono trends;

-- Administering a resource call helpline;

-- Participating in volunteer recognition events and activities;

-- Representing Lawyers Alliance at information sessions and other visibility events; and

-- Working on additional client outreach and screening, pro bono, marketing, fundraising, and other
projects as requested.


Additional Qualifications:

Working at Lawyers Alliance offers the opportunity to be involved in some of New York City’s most
interesting public interest work and improve the delivery of pro bono services. The successful candidate
will have a college degree; 2+ years relevant work experience, preferably in a legal setting; strong
organizational, communication, computer and administrative skills; and an interest in the nonprofit sector.

Staff Attorney-Alexandria, VA

National District Attorneys Association has an opening for a staff attorney interested in the fields of
prosecution for its National Center for Prosecution of Child Abuse (NCPCA). The NCPCA serves as a
central resource for prosecutors and works with local and federal partners nationwide in a coordinated
effort to provide:

•Expert training and technical assistance by experienced attorneys through conferences, state-specific
training programs and thousands of phone and email consultations each year.
•A clearinghouse on child abuse case law, statutory initiatives, court reforms, expert witness information,
transcripts, and trial strategies - a unique, comprehensive and continually expanding resource.
•Research on substantive child abuse information including, but not limited to, medical, psychological and

sociological aspects of child abuse, neglect and exploitation. Best practices and innovations in forensic
interviewing, investigation and prosecution of child abuse and maltreatment.

This position is located in Alexandria, Virginia, and requires relocation to the DC Metro area.

Organizational Role
Staff attorneys assist senior attorneys with research, technical assistance and training for state and local
prosecutors, investigators, and other front-line child abuse professionals nationwide who are investigating
and prosecuting cases of child physical, sexual abuse and exploitation. Staff attorneys conduct research and
work on various topics related to criminal child abuse cases including child sexual exploitation, parental
abduction, child deaths and physical abuse, sexual abuse and criminal neglect.

Position Responsibilities
•Provide technical assistance to professionals on all child abuse topics
•Research, update and synthesize the latest relevant research and case law
•Research, write and edit publications
•Assist in the development and presentation of national conferences and training events
•Identify and maintain contact with a national network of prosecutors and criminal justice organizations
and professionals
•Perform other duties as assigned
•Develop knowledge and expertise in a specialized program area
•Learn how prosecutors utilize evidence in court, deal with issues of admissibility, handle defense experts
•Learn from national leaders and legal experts at national trainings and workshops presented by NCPCA on
important topics in criminal prosecution
•Contribute to and/or write articles for national newsletter and other publications

Position Requirements and Qualifications
•A J.D. and Bar membership (or sitting for next exam)
•Well-developed communication skills, both verbal and written
•Strong research and legal analysis skills
•Computer skills including, Internet, Lexis-Nexis, MS Word, and PowerPoint is helpful
•Interest and knowledge or experience in criminal justice, child protection, child sexual exploitation,
including computer facilitated crimes against children a plus

Travel Requirements
Average travel time is 2-4 times (one week or less) a year depending on program assignments.
