Dear Representative Gordon:

The National Association of Graduate-Professional Students (NAGPS) wants to thank you for your extraordinary
effort in supporting funding for science research and education in the America COMPETES Reauthorization Act of
2010 (H.R. 5116). This legislation will directly impact the opportunities available to graduate students in science

We hope that the Senate will consider companion legislation soon. At this moment the NAGPS leadership is
coordinating with our member institutions to ensure their Senators are aware of the importance of research in
graduate education, and to the role of science and technology in securing long-term economic growth.

NAGPS represents the interests of over 2.6 million graduate and professional students across the United States. As
an organization we advocate for issues affecting graduate and professional students on both the local and national
levels. The funding allocations in America COMPETES are important to our community and once again we
appreciate your labors in this regard.
