• Definition: Altar work is instructing, assisting and
leading people to God. “It is a place of encounter”
  Where God meets man!
• At times it entails praying people through to the Holy
  Ghost, deliverance, healing.
• At times it may require just comforting, talking, listening
  or giving a bible study.

Biblical Basis For Praying People Through

1. Apostles and Disciples in Acts 1 & 2 had spent 3 ½
years with Jesus, learning how to pray, repent, and
     praise.
2. The Jews, being very indoctrinated in their religion, had
a very good understanding in repentance and praise.
3. The tabernacle plan required both repentance (brazen
     altar), praise (golden altar).

Who Should Work At The Altar?
When at the altar, you are a priest (priest=“ONE WHO STANDS”)
Everyone that has received the Grace and wants to return
  the Gospel.

Why is The Altar Important?
  It is a place of:
Sacrifice Repentance
Salvation Deliverance

Basic Steps of Altar Work
“Search and Destroy” (the works of the devil)
Search out someone in the altar or in the pew.
Remember, where is the altar? Anywhere. Decide who
to pray for, approach the person, preferably woman to
woman, man to man. Remember to be gentle.

Basic Steps (cont)
Assess the needs: observe/listen/be sensitive to the
spirit.Watch body language, and (note intensity, if they are
kneeling down, crying, quiet, excited, shaking, smiling,
  scared, tight, etc…)
If necessary, instruct the person through repentance: repent
with them. “Ask the Lord to forgive me of all my sins and
help me to never do it again.”
Assist them through the “transition” of repentance to praise
and worship. Ask them if they believe God has forgiven

Basic Steps (cont)
Quote 1st John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful
and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness” (learn this verse by memory).
Ask them if they would lift their hand (a gentle nudge with
the finger on the elbow) “You must get their consent, don’t
force their hand in the air “…and thank God for forgiving
  you of your sins.

Assist them through the “transition”: from praise and worship
to receiving the Holy Ghost. Watch body language, you can
watch facial expressions and body movements such as stam-
mering lips, hands shaking, etc.

After praying with them ask them about baptism: “Have you
been baptized in name of Father, Son, and Holy Ghost?, if yes
explain Jesus name baptism (or set up a Bible study).

Follow up with them:
Introduce yourself, ask who brought them, ask them how
they feel, offer them a Bible study, register them at the visitor
table or booth. Get their number (don’t give out yours becau-
se more times than not they won’t call you, be a wise fisher-
man). Note: 75% of people are won through Personal Evan-
gelism. Winning a soul is based on a relationship, “People
Don’t care how much you know until they know how much
You care.” John Maxwell.

Note: While working with backsliders, remind them that God
still loves them and that he has never left them. All they have
to do is believe his promises that God has forgiven them and
that they have every right to speak in tongues again.

Transition From Repentance To Praise (cont)
Speaking in tongues is the evidence of receiving the Holy
Ghost. This happened in Acts 10:45, Acts 2.

Tell them not to be afraid to speak in tongues. Tell them the
Lord is very close to you.
When they start speaking in tongues, celebrate, ask them not
to stop in order to have more confirmation.

Once They Have Received The Holy Ghost
Encourage Them:
1. To keep praying until they are satisfied
2. Don’t let them get a little taste and stop
3. To continue to speak in tongues as much as possible

Tell Them:
• About the necessity of Water Baptism in Jesus name.
• Benefits of orientation and follow up classes.

Other Instructions:
Try and sit next to or close to someone that needs the Holy
Ghost. Invite them to the altar or pray with them at their pew.
If someone in the service or at the altar has not explained to
them about receiving the Holy Ghost, take the time to expl-
ain to them what will happen and how to yield to the spirit.
Stay with them until they have finished praying. Then ask
them if they heard the different words they were speaking.

Rejoice with them and let them know, speaking in tongues
is the sign of receiving the Holy Ghost.
APPOINT AN ALTAR WORKER CAPTAIN!
When the person you are praying with receives the Holy
Ghost you should do 3 things: 1. Lift your hand and wave it
so the altar captain can give you an altar card for follow up.
2. You should fill out the card with them after they are
through praying and give it to the altar captain. 3. Ask them
if they have been baptized, explain it to them if necessary.
