                                Vital Stats Of This Athlete

Traci Swanson is Gonzaga NRHH’s Director

of Recognition, but she is far more than just that

title. Traci is a junior, sports management major

who places large amounts of time into NRHH as

well as many other activities. Traci has held this

position in NRHH for the last two years. While

many may have burnout from such a time-

consuming position, Traci has embraced the

challenge of renewing all of the prior recognition

activities while also inventing new creative

recognition techniques. Traci is not only Director of Recognition for NRHH; she is a vital aspect

of many other clubs and organizations on campus that help to impact the lives of many. Traci

participates in many intramurals which allows her to meet new people on Gonzaga’s campus,

but where recognition is more deserved is her work in organizations. These organizations

include working with Gonzaga’s University Ministry to organize retreats, working with Mission

Possible which is a group of students that give up their spring break to help others in need in

the country, and she is a Catholic Youth Leader. All of these activities are reasons why Traci

herself deserves recognition, but she strives to provide the best recognition for others on our

campus.

                                                                                                    2
                              Positions This Athlete Plays

As Director of Recognition for Gonzaga Traci is required to fulfill the following

requirements:

o Chair a small committee that will plan and implement recognition for Campus, Regional,

       and National OTM winners.

   o Attend weekly NRHH meetings.

o Ensure that OTM winners and writers are recognized every month.

o Be in charge of purchasing Bronze Pins and involve the chapter in awarding them at the

       end of the year.

o Chair an NRHH standing and/or ad hoc committee as needed.

o Attend and support a majority of NRHH events.

o Present an end-of-term report to the Chief Administrative Officer for permanent

       Chapter records.

Since Gonzaga has a smaller NRHH

chapter than many schools, Traci is required to

do most of the work herself. While her

constitutional positions do not look plentiful,

Traci puts more into the position than anyone

else has. Her committee is only made up of the

President, one GA member, and herself. Traci

realizes the busy schedules of everyone and takes on most of the work for this recognition

committee.

                                                                                                   3
Athlete Hits It Out Of The Park

Traci took it upon herself last year to

create a template for Gonzaga’s recognition

certificates which were out of date when she

took the position. Traci has also created

“table tents” that publicize the OTM winners

for Gonzaga. While most of Gonzaga’s prior

recognition had always been on the winners

of OTMs for each month, Traci decided on the idea to recognize everyone who was nominated

for an OTM at the campus level. Even though it’s just a simple email sent to the nominees, the

time it takes adds up. Traci has never complained about her tasks, but embraces them and

strives to create new recognition ways. One of her new

ways to recognize OTM winners was by utilizing the gold

and silver tag board found in Gonzaga’s housing office. Traci

took the gold and silver tagboard and pasted the OTM on it

while writing “NRHH Recognizes You!” and then all of the

NRHH members would sign the tagboard. This was one way

for those groups and individuals to have another way to

show their achievements. Along with the tagboard, Traci

decided to purchase NRHH t-shirts so the winners could be

seen around campus and asked about their award.

                                                                                                    4
While these were all newer forms of recognition for this year, Traci also kept the

traditional methods of recognition flowing. “The Wall” is four pieces of concrete put together

than everyone on campus reads as they walk to campus. Traci

has painted the wall every month as another way of

recognition. This task is very time-consuming but she enjoys

expressing her artistic side. Traci has also utilized the campus

newsletters and newspapers to recognize those who

deserving. One item that was created three years ago is still

running thanks to Traci. A large poster was made to be hung in

the student center that shows the winners of OTMs each

month. This poster requires the approval from the student

center every two weeks which can be a difficult task to

accomplish. She always makes sure that it is updated and that

everyone knows who should be recognized for the month.

Traci is always creating new recognition ideas. Her newest ones include painting flower

pots to pass out to winners and creating coffee mugs. These gifts are useful and enjoyable to

everyone and are a new way of recognizing that has not

been done before at Gonzaga University.

                                                                                                    5
                          This Athlete Has Got Connections

Many times as students we are unable to see everyone who does well for our campus.

We are often blinded by the obvious work that has occurred. Traci is one of those students who

are able to see who needs recognition the most. Traci has stepped up to the plate in contacting

the many offices on campus to gain recognition of those deserving that are not recognized by

students. Traci utilizes these offices to learn what “behind-the-scenes” work has gone on at

Gonzaga. Many times when she brings her nominations to NRHH she astounds the rest of the

general assembly since some students are unaware of everything that goes into allowing a

university to function. Traci always has that other side of the coin perspective that is needed in

an organization that can be biased in their nominations for recognition at times. Without Traci,

the uniqueness of Gonzaga University’s NRHH would not be as likely. She strives to find the best

and do the best recognition for them. This is all why Traci deserves NRHH Outstanding Member

of the Year. She is truly our MVP for Gonzaga NRHH.

HEY PACURH!!

I am so honored to be given the opportunity to recommend Traci Swanson for NRHH
Outstanding Member of the Year. Traci has been a role model for the last year and a half in her
Director of Recognition position. While this is my first year as president for NRHH, I have been
in the organization for over two and a half years and have never met someone who has put in
so many hours of time into every project that she is given. Her commitment to recognizing
those deserving is truly something to be recognized itself.

Often times I go to Traci for advice on what was done for the executive board in the
previous year since she is a returning executive board member and she has always provided me
with the information or advice that I need to help guide the organization in the right direction.
Without Traci, I may very well be missing crucial information to help Gonzaga’s NRHH succeed.

Traci is always creative in her ideas for recognition and every idea is gladly accepted by
the rest of the organization since they are usually without flaws! Traci is not only a great fellow
executive board member, but also a great friend. Over the last year I have gotten to know Traci
on a much more personal level and the direction her life is heading is absolutely inspiring. While
she is a year younger than me age wise, she is definitely far beyond her age maturity wise. I
could not have asked for a better Director of Recognition for the last couple years.

Traci is always willing to help and sometimes we have to tell her no so she will stop
being superwoman. Traci can do all and do it with a smile on her face, something that can be
hard for many to do. Without Traci, I know that Gonzaga NRHH would not be in the place it is
today and would not continue in moving forward for the better.

It is my honor to recommend Traci as NRHH Outstanding Member of the Year for her
contributions to NRHH which are countless, her willingness to always help, her new and
creative recognition ideas, and especially her kind heart and always listening ear. She truly
deserves this award. Thank you in advance for your consideration of Traci Swanson for this
award, she is Gonzaga’s MVP.
