Please follow these instructions very carefully, screen by screen. If you make a mistake,
especially installing ModelSim, you will have to uninstall and start all over.

 Xilinx Installation:

Go to http://www.xilinx.com/support/download/index.htm and download the Xilinx 12.4 ISE
Design Suite Full Installer for Windows. This file is 3.4 GB so it will take several hours to
 download.

Open the folder “Xilinx_ISE_DS_WIN_12.4_M.81d.2.0” and extract the files.

 Run the file xsetup.exe

Click next three times and agree to the software license agreements as you go.

The next screen will prompt you to select the edition of the Xilinx Design Suite you wish to install.

Select ISE WebPack as shown below and click next.
Click next two more times and leave all the boxes checked.

Click Install. The installation should take 20 - 30 minutes.

Near the end of the installation a WinPCap 4.1.1 Installer will pop up. Click next twice, I Agree, and then
Install.

At the end of installation, a Xilinx License Configureation Manager will pop up. On the Acquire a License
Tab click on Get Free ISE WebPack License and click next.
A window will pop up to connect you to get a license. Click Connect now and it will bring you to the
Xilinx Licensing Site. Click the Create Account Link and fill out the information to create a new account.

Xilinx will then send you an email to activate your account. Click the activate link in the email and sign in
to the Xilinx web page.

This will bring you to the product licensing page. Fill in your personal information and click Next.

Make sure the box by ISE Design Suite: WebPACK License is checked and click on the Generate Node-
Locked License Link.
A window will pop up. Click Next twice. The license should then be emailed to you. The following
Instructions to enable the license are provided in the email.

Node-locked Licenses:
These steps will copy your license file to the appropriate default directory (the .Xilinx directory under your home
drive – typically HOMEDRIVE= C: for Windows).

   1. Save the attached license file to your desktop or some other folder on your computer
   2. Run the Xilinx License Configuration Manager
Windows: Run ‘Manage Xilinx Licenses’ from Xilinx ISE Design Suite 12 program group
Linux: Type ‘xlcm’ in a command-line window
   3. Select the ‘Manage Xilinx Licenses’ tab and click on the ‘Copy License…’ button
   4. Browse to the downloaded license file and click ‘Open’

Step 2 can be done by going to the start menu and doing the following:

         Click “All Programs”

Click the “Xilinx ISE Design Suite 12.4” Folder

         Click the “Accessories” Folder

         Click “Manage Xilinx Licenses”
ModelSim Installation:

Go to http://model.com/content/modelsim-pe-student-edition-hdl-simulation and click on the
download link.

This will bring up a software download request. Fill in your personal information and click the Request
Download link at the bottom of the page.

Click on the executable download link on the next page and click save on the downloader.
Go to where you saved the file and run “modelsim-pe_student_edition.exe”

An installer for ModelSim 10.0 will come up. Click next (or yes) four times and the installation will start.

When it asks you questions during the install, click No twice and then click finish.

Once the installation is complete, a License Request webpage will open. Fill out your personal
information and click request license at the bottom and the license will then be emailed to you.

The email provides the following instructions for enabling the license. If you did not change the
installation path, the file should be saved in C:/modeltech_pe_edu.
