					                     Classes at Commonthreads Yarn Shop

                             Late June and July 2009

Since we have limited space all classes have minimum class sizes so be sure to
either call (889-8650) or drop into the shop to sign up. You will need to sign up
to take the class.

You will notice that we have made some changes to some of our class times.
We are now teaching most morning Saturday classes from 9:00 to 10:30. We
are also teaching some classes on Sunday afternoons from 2:00 to 3:30 and
others on Tuesday nights from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. We are trying to select class
times when the shop is not open or not busy so classes are not as noisy and
customers and classes are not sharing the same space.

Knitting classes

Join us every Thursday from 6 to 8 pm. for open knitting and crocheting. Bring
along your works in progress and your finished projects to show and share.

Ruffles n’ Ridges Scarf
Saturday July 11, 9 to 10:30 am.
Have you heard? Ruffles are in style this year! Check out the ruffled scarf
in the shop and then join Natalie for this one-day class. Using 2 different
yarns and knitting garter stitch ridges lengthwise, we'll create our basic
scarf. Then using lovely Kid Seta yarn, we'll pick up stitches for the ruffled
edges. Lots of fun and you'll learn a new technique or two along the way.

Taught by Natalie.

Call the shop to sign up--or if you have any questions: 889-8650.

Knit one below introduction
Saturday July 18, 9 to 10:30 am.
Learn about this new knitting technique. The technique is not difficult. However
correcting mistakes requires a different method than “normal” knitting. Cast on
requirements and stitch size and gauge will also be taught, as they are also
different from "normal" knitting. This class is a prerequisite to the knit one below
reversible vest (unless you have had a class on correcting mistakes in this stitch
elsewhere). We will schedule times for the Knit one below reversible vest project
at the end of this class.

You will make a face cloth using cotton fleece yarn and you will practice
correcting mistakes
Call the shop to sign up--or if you have any questions: 889-8650.
Taught by Judy

Class fee: $15
Limited to 8 participants

2 skeins of cotton fleece yarn in contrasting colors
Size 6 or 7 needles (the sample was knit on size 7 needles)

Beginning knitting
Sunday July 19, 2:00 to 3:30 pm.
We have enough people signed up to schedule beginning knitting. You are
welcome to come if you've never knit a stitch--or if you've done some knitting in
the past and just want to "hone your skills." However, you do need to let us know
if you plan to come. We'll have 2 simple but fun projects--a garter stitch scarf in
lovely Noro yarn, or a sampler scarf using 8 different stitch combinations. You
can come to either class--and we will help you with whatever you want to learn.
We anticipate that some students will want to do the garter stitch scarf, and some
the sampler scarf. Date of second class will be scheduled at the class on the
Taught by Natalie.

Each class will be $15 plus materials. It will take 2 classes to complete your
project and our classes usually last about 1 1/2 hours. Call to shop to sign up--or
if you have any questions: 889-8650.

Great American Afghan KAL (knit along)
Begins Saturday July 25, 9:00 to 10:30 am.
We will be completing one square each month on this afghan. We will have one
meeting each month to go over the square, techniques and questions. We will
also have a computer group for those who are knitting the afghan. We are still
working out some of the details but we will have more information soon. Stop by
the shop to see the yarn for this project in Cascade 220 superwash (you can
machine wash the afghan in this yarn) or in Ultra Alpaca. Taught/led by Judy.

Crochet classes
Open Crochet
Mondays 6:30 to 8:30 pm. If you crochet this is your night. Bring your project to
work on and to share. Beginning crocheters are welcome.

Are you beyond the beginning crochet class but still want help with your next
projects? Then this class is for you. The class is held most Saturdays (see online
calendar) from 1 pm. to 2:30. On July 11 the class will be the Mission Falls
Crochet Wrap (see description below). Learn to crochet ripple stitch or other
stitches for afghans. Learn how to measure gauge and how to fit garments.

select from patterns and projects at the shop.

Mission Falls Crochet Wrap
This is the crocheted version of the knitted 3-button wrap. The wrap is crocheted
in Mission Falls cotton yarn and is very comfortable. The body of the wrap uses a
herringbone half double crochet stitch and double crochet. In this class you will
learn the basics for the body of the wrap. We will have a follow up class for the
edging later in the summer. If you would like a lighter wrap you can use sublime
organic cotton (DK weight).
