                               Problem Statement

unit unable to connect to GPS: collector has performed hard reset and re-installed
TerraSync. Trimble Priority support sent program to reset GPS receiver-no success
unit non-responsive to screen taps outside- temps between mid20's-mid 30's

problem creating file on SD card; also, GPS com port error

While operating unit on SR24, at 3:26PM, the screen would fade to the suspend mode.
Upon hitting the power button, the last screen I was on would show up, still in collect
mode, with no satellites or L2 frequency showing. This occurred three or four times. I
tried running a system report, and the unit locked up, no response. I soft-booted the
unit, tried a system report. I tried to save the system report, and the unit locked up
again. I rebooted, opened Terrasync, tried to open the day’s file. Upon verifying the
antenna height, the little square that shows that the unit is processing came up and
stayed up for 10-15 minutes while I walked back to the truck.
This morning while trying to transfer files from the Trimble unit, all of yesterday’s work
appears to be gone. I receive an error, “Cannot convert, reached end of file.”

Geo XH returned gwes.exe error after Microsoft device error upon
creating a file. Soft re-boot appeared to fix difficulty for 4617464337.
No other programs, aside from TerraSync, were running on the Geo XH at
the time the error was displayed. An image was captured of the error,
and a system report was run immediately after the device returned said
error. The error has developed three times in the past two days.

Geo XH returned gwes.exe error after Microsoft device error upon creating a file. Soft
re-boot appeared to fix difficulty for 4617464337. Upon re-boot, closed all programs
running on memory (e.g., Internet Explorer, despite being in flight mode). An image
was captured of the error, and a system report was run immediately after the device
returned said error. The error has developed four times in the past three days.
Datalogger extremely sluggish and slow to respond to stylus taps. After waiting
several minutes, a soft re-boot was applied, which solved the problem.
Returned Microsoft Windows related errors, device.exe and gwes.exe
while cradled, subsequent to dowmloading .ssf file, unit returned a device.exe and
gwes.exe errors message
On 070212, as well as 070213, received device.exe and gwes.exe errors (back to back
on 070213). Each of the three occurrences resulted in a soft re-boot of the Geo XH. All
occurrences happened upon opening a file, immediately after setting the file name, and
before the "collect features" screen appeared in TerraSync. The soft re-boots appeared
to fix the issue (on the second attempt in the case of 070213).

At 2:22pm, 2/15/07 Geo XH returned device.exe and gwes.exe error upon cradling and
connecting to laptop.

Geo XH device returned three consecutive device.exe and gwes.exe errors upon
starting data file for daily collection.
Geo XH returned device.exe and gwes.exe errors upon cradling for data download.
Even though a soft boot was performed each time, the error persisted. After three
sequences, the error stopped upon cradling. The device was removed each time the
error occurred to perform the soft boot

Battery got down to 20%. At 20%, unit shut down. Restarted unit, had to connect to
GPS. Upon attempting connection, unit shutdown again. No system report due to
power down. Do these units have back-up batteries? My partner recieved a warning on
is unit at 15%, but mine showed no warning at all.
Geo XH returned gwes.exe error upon starting data file for daily collection. Geo XH
returned device.exe error upon cradling for, ironically, downloading of first system
report.

Upon startup of data file for daily collection, gwes.exe error was returned by Geo XH.
Upon cradling for for re-charging, Geo XH returned device.exe error.
Geo-XH returned gwes.exe error upon startup of daily collection file.
This morning upon start-up of unit, received the message, ?An error has occurred
while connecting to GPS receiver. Failed to connect to GPS receiver because COM port
is iin use by another application. Ran a system report. At 3:09 PM, while operating unit
on SR12, the screen locked up, with no response to the stylus.

soft re-boot by field datacollector

soft re-boot by field datacollector
soft re-boot appears to have alleviated the issue.

A soft boot, as well as opening a new TerraSync file, was conducted for each
failure.

Unsure if unit is ok after being charged back up.I spoke to Lee Shuman (supervisor)
via voice mail; I offered potential solutions of sending the unit to Electronic Data
Solutions to test the battery. If the battery tests out below par, they will install a new
battery free(Unit is under warranty). If battery seems ok, let's have a new battery
installed anyway($120.00) plus EDS time, and see if that enhances the unit
performance. Lee and I will discuss further next Monday. SCR is going to send unit
to EDS to get checked out (3/1/07)
