CAREER & JOB FAIR TIPS from NTID Center of Employment (NCE) BEFORE the JOB FAIR: Research the employers attending the fair. Make a list of employers that you want to see. Bring copies of your resume. Have your outfit ready. DURING the JOB FAIR: Dress professionally. Smile and make eye contact when you approach the recruiter. Introduce yourself and shake hands. Explain your field and the type of job you are seeking. What to say to an employer? SCRIPT EXAMPLES: #1. Example for co-op job: I am a student, majoring in _______. I am looking for a summer co-op job doing as _______. Can you tell me about current opportunities in this area at your company? #2. Example for job after graduation: I will be graduating in May with a degree in_______, and am interested in the field/area of _______. I completed a co-op with a_____ where I developed ( your skills)____. I am currently looking for a full time job in ( a city/state name). Can you tell me about opportunities in this area at your company? AFTER the JOB FAIR: Give the recruiter your resume. Ask about the types of positions the company is looking to fill. Ask for a business card. Thank the recruiter for his/her time. Make notes about the discussion with each employer. Follow up by calling or sending a letter within 7-10 days. Keep a record of all contacts with employers.
