                                     ANNAPURNA SANCTUARY

                          ANNAPURNA SANCTUARY ITINERARY

The once mountain Kingdom, now Young Republic, of Nepal is home to half of the worlds 8,000m peaks,
including Mount Everest, the highest point on Earth. This small country of 147, contains a diverse
range of topography and climates, from the freezing high Himalaya to the hot and humid plains of the south.

The Annapurna massif forms an almost complete ring of peaks. The only breach in the wall is that of the Modi
Khola canyon to south. The “Sanctuary” within is a strange, yet fascinating amphitheatre of ice, snow, glacier
and moraine.

Our approach route takes us along the highly cultivated terraced hillside of rural Nepal through a region
populated by Gurung, a tribe whose manpower contributes greatly to the Ghurkha Brigades. Higher up the
cultivated areas give way to rhododendron and bamboo forest and eventually to rocky and barren terrain.
