                                            Helpers
One great way to be a special part of the Houseparty is to donate a Houseparty Helper. Houseparty
Helpers are specially designed and handcrafted items valued at a minimum of $150. An individual,
company, shop or club may donate a dollhouse, roombox, shop, vignette, doll or a very special piece. In
addition, there have been some very creative ways of donating cash as a Houseparty Helper.

Raffle tickets will be sold on all donated items and the proceeds will be used to defray Houseparty
expenses.

If you wish to participate and be recognized in the Souvenir Book, your form must be postmarked no
later than March 1, 2011. Please contact Houseparty Helper Chairperson Donald Greenfield at
717-554-9668 or by email at dgreen9259@comcast.net with any questions.

Please complete the form below and send to:

                                   Mini-Swap
For those of you who are new to the idea of a mini-swap, it is an activity in which you exchange miniatures
that you have made for those that others have made. This is an opportunity to showcase your talents. We
have decided to offer swaps in 3 scales. You may participate in as many scales as you choose. Complete
this form and return it by March 1, 2011. We must have a paper form, no email reservations. When you
come to the Houseparty, bring your 20 identical items with you. They should be individually packaged in
plastic bags or other containers with your name and address on the package. These items should be
handcrafted, if possible, and should be completed. NO KITS and NO PRINTIES, please. Your swap items
should be something everyone, including you, would be happy to receive. At the swap you will put your
items into 20 bags that will be provided. At the same time, other people will be doing the same task. When
completed, everyone will have a bag containing 20 wonderful goodies to take home.
You must pre-register in order to participate. Please note that you will be responsible for putting your
own items in the bags. The helpers in the room will not be allowed to do this for anyone. If you offer to help
a friend and bring their items, you will not be able to participate with your own items in that same scale.
When you receive your final schedule at the Houseparty, please pay attention to the time the exchange
begins. If you are late arriving, you may miss the chance to participate. No acknowledgement or further
instructions will be sent when you send me your form. A list of participants will be posted in the registration
area at the Houseparty.
If you would like to participate, but can't think of anything to make, please feel free to contact me and I
would be more than happy to give you ideas of things that are attractive, easy, and inexpensive. If this
sounds like fun, we want you to participate. If you have any questions, please contact Peg Kniskern,
Chairman, at pjkwk@aol.com or 518-355-9621.

Please mail your completed form by March 1st, 2011 to:

Somewhere in Time NAME 2011 Small Scale Houseparty Rochester, New York
                                   Roundtables
We invite you to apply to teach a Roundtable Workshop at the NAME 2011 Small Scale Houseparty. A
Roundtable Workshop is a “make & take” project which, under your supervision, can be completed in 30
minutes or less and costs no more than $5.00. Each kit is to include an Instruction Sheet with basic assembly
instructions and the instructor’s name, address, phone number and e-mail address for student follow-up, if
needed. A photo or line drawing of the project is very helpful.

There will be a pre-sale period for all Roundtable kits before the actual Roundtable Workshops begin. Your
helper may continue selling kits during the workshop. You will need a helper to sell your kits so that you can
give those who have purchased them your undivided attention during the workshop. You will need to bring an
extra completed kit with you to the Houseparty. The sample will be on display and your extra kit will be needed
as a prototype for your students.

A fee of $20 is required by NAME to teach any workshop. If your Roundtable submission is accepted, you will
receive an agreement form from the NAME office to complete and return with your $20 fee. You will also
have the option of putting your Roundtable kit in the Roundtable Treasures column in the Gazette for a
nominal fee after it has been offered for sale at the Houseparty.
It is suggested that you bring at least 50 kits to the Houseparty with you. You may not take orders for
your roundtable kits at the Houseparty.

Please consider donating your sample to be placed with the other samples as a Houseparty Helper. If you
are willing to do so, please check the appropriate box on the application form. Your generosity will be greatly
appreciated.
              1) A sample of the finished item(s) MUST accompany each application.
              2) You may submit one item in 3 different scales (1/2” or less) – OR –
2 related items in the same scale (1/2” or less).
              3) Your application and sample must be received no later than January 10, 2011.

Please complete the application below and mail with your completed sample to:

                                 Toolkit
Here is a list of items you may want to include in your basic toolbox. This is only a suggested list, and
there may be additional items you want to add or you may not want to include them all. However, these
are generally the things an instructor will expect you to have with you. If you need specific tools beyond
this list, your teacher should let you know in advance. Your tool box will evolve over time and reflect your
personality as you make your miniature creations.

X-acto knife with #11 blades sandpaper (medium/fine) small cutting mat
Small notebook and pencils needle nose pliers paint brushes
2 pair of scissors (paper and fabric) masking tape small spring clamps
12” and 6” cork-backed rulers Tacky glue fine point tweezers
glue spreader/old hotel keycards toothpicks emery boards

You may wish to bring a work light and extension cord, as hotel lighting is not the best for miniaturing.

Below are additional supplies that you may find are helpful to have:
steel wool 0000 rubber gloves mousepad

                                              BASIC SKILLS
These are considered the basic skills necessary for a productive, enjoyable workshop experience:
                                  1. Use basic tools confidently
                                  2. Cut accurately with an X-acto knife
                                  3. Read rulers and mark lengths accurately
                                  4. Have knowledge of basic glues and how to apply them
                                  5. Know how to paint smoothly

When asked to list the skills needed beyond the basic ones, most teachers reply that they would be
more than prepared to teach whatever their students did not know how to do. What they would like
students to have are some “opens” - open mind, open heart, open eyes, open ears and an open ---

Somewhere in Time NAME 2011 Small Scale Houseparty Rochester, New York
                                         Totebags
Welcome to the 2011 NAME M-1 Small Scale Houseparty, “Somewhere in Time” in Rochester, New York!

At each Houseparty, every attendee gets to take home a bag of goodies called a “totebag.” Clubs, businesses,
and individual members donate these favors. If you or your club would like to take part in the fun, we ask that you
make small, well-crafted items in ½”, ¼” or 1/144 scale to be included in the Totebag. We will be filling 250
totebags, and we realize that not everyone will be able to donate one item for each bag. However, we would
appreciate a minimum of 50 of any one favor. Please bag items individually and include your name or club name
and where you live. All items will be acknowledged in our souvenir book if names and items are received by March
1, 2011.

Items do not have to be along the lines of our theme but if you would like a few suggestions, read on.
